While in Detroit for the 1.13.13 reveal and the North American International Auto Show, we talked with Craig Sass who was the Interior Design Manager on the C7 Corvette. Craig and his team were responsible for totally redesigning the interior of the Stingray. To say they were challenged in this task would be an understatement based on the constant criticism of the C6 Corvette’s interior. But now that the 2014 Corvette Stingray has been revealed, the interior design team has earned high praise and respect for taking the interior space of the Stingray to a whole new level.

Everyone knows that Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Jeuchter says they stuck with a big, bad V8 motor in the Corvette because it delivered better fuel economy with the new Active Fuel Management system that shuts down half of the motor when appropriate than a smaller motor was able to do.

The Top 11 Corvette Sales of Mecum Kissimmee 2013

Mecum Auctions’ occupation of central Florida wrapped up last weekend after a 10-day bender of sunshine and vehicle sales. Their first event of 2013 tallied 2,610 cars traversing the red carpeted auction block with roughly 70% of those going to new homes. A total of 402 Corvettes (15% of the total docket) were available and 62 of them drew bids of $100,000 or more.

Remember that story about Beyonce doing the Super Bowl halftime show with the 2014 Corvette Stingray? Well, that didn’t happen.

What did happen was the red 2014 Corvette Stingray was on the field during the post game celebration but it got zero coverage by CBS Sports. And despite a tweet from Corvette’s John Fitzpatrick confirming it was the Red Corvette that was in the house, there has been no announcement from Chevrolet regarding the MVP award.

When the final car crossed the block in Kissimmee, Florida at Mecum’s 2013 event and the totals were in, the stage was set to determine the winner of the “Superbowl” of auctions. Over the last several weeks it was hard to avoid all of the auction coverage that took place in Scottsdale, Arizona, headlined with the extravaganza staged by Barrett-Jackson, and the east coast contender, Mecum. To many readers it may have seemed a bit confusing as to just what was the “premier” auction event in January, Barrett-Jackson or Mecum. I’m not sure that we can designate which auction was “best” since that is a subjective evaluation and dependent on individual tastes. GM Performance Build Center Moving to Bowling Green

General Motors has announced that they will be moving their Performance Build Center from its current home in Wixom, MI to the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Ky. The low-volume production facility currently hand assembles all of the dry sump motors (LS7, LS9, and LS3 with manual tranny) for Corvettes. Previously, they also produced the powerplants for the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V.
