[VIDEO] New Record Set for Corvette E-Ray's Stealth Mode

A couple weeks ago we were watching a video from our friend Barry who was one of the first to get a 2024 Corvette E-Ray. On that day, he was testing the limits of Stealth Mode and how far he could travel on battery-power only. With his best attempt being 3.6 miles on that day, I jokenly suggested that he set “a new world record” for the E-Ray in Stealth mode and that we needed a leaderboard to keep track of these attempts.

Since that day, another E-Ray owner reported a distance of 3.8 miles on pure battery power, so game on for Barry! He set out again this week to try and break that record, or at least surpass his previous best of 3.6 miles and the good news is he shattered that distance by going 4.1 miles in Stealth Mode.

On Barry’s first attempt, he says he was driving around town, and while there weren’t many cars out, there were stop signs. He felt that they was holding him back after his V8 kicked on and he saw he only traveled 3.5 miles. For his second attempt he headed out to the countryside, and after topping up the E-Ray’s 1.9 kW battery with a quick drive on the highway, he was ready for his second attempt. Here he gets up to speed easily but also needs to make sure he keeps it under 45 mph or the V8 will kick on.

There was only one stop sign on this route, and Barry also benefited from some elevation changes where we saw the battery pack actually tick up one percent because he was going downhill. Finally, as the battery pack hits 21% charge remaining, the V8 motor does its flying start up, and Barry is able to see he traveled 4.1 miles in Stealth Mode.

We appreciate Barry’s attempts here and thank him for including us in his video. We’re really just having some fun with a new Corvette feature that’s totally opposite of everything we’ve seen done before. But it’s all in the spirit of some friendly competition. If you’re a hater and don’t understand why anyone who want to try this, then that’s on you. If anyone has video proof that they have surpassed 4.1 miles in Stealth Mode, we want to see it! 1. Limitations of lithium-ion batteries:

    1. High cost: Lithium-ion batteries are more expensive to manufacture, due to complexity of their construction and use of rare and toxic material.
    2. Safety concerns: Lithium-ion batteries can be prone to overheating, swelling or even catching fire or exploding if not handled properly or subject to extreme conditions, such as overcharging, short-circuiting, or physical damage.
    3. Environmental impact: Lithium-ion batteries require careful disposal or recycling to avoid polluting the environment or wasting valuable resources, such as lithium cobalt, nickel, and copper.

    Many thanks,
    Ray
