Corvettes for Sale: Stunning Yellow 1980 Corvette on Bring a Trailer

One of my all-time favorite Corvette photos shows a Yellow 1980 Corvette just like this one. For decades, that framed picture decorated the wall of my photo studio, and that same photo is now hanging in my basement. I can’t part with it.

If I feel that way about just a photo, can you imagine how the owner of this REAL 1980 Corvette feels about parting with it after an impressive 40 years of ownership?

Nevertheless, his car is up for sale on Bring a Trailer, and with six days left in the auction, it’s hit the $10,000 mark. If you’ve ever wanted a 1980 Corvette (and the first of my 14 ‘Vettes was a red ’80), stop everything and take a look because this just might be the perfect one for you as it looks to be in absolutely superb condition, unlike so many of its brethren for sale these days.

Indeed, after buying this car in 1984, the seller enjoyed it enough to put 40,000 miles on the odometer before he set out on two years of restoration in 2019. Check out the remarkable results for yourself, including complete photo documentation of the repainting process down to the bare fiberglass and receipts from all the other work done, too.

He spent more than $2,000 alone in 2019 rebuilding the L48 350 V8 engine, then replaced the clutch, brake calipers, and tires; installed a COMP Cams camshaft, Hooker exhaust headers, a Pypes stainless steel exhaust system, and a Cold Case aluminum radiator; and rebuilt the power steering system.

With the current outcry for manual transmissions, this one remarkably even has that box checked as it left the St. Louis factory with a four-speed gearbox!

Inside, the car continues to sparkle as the bucket seats have been redone in Oyster leather, including replacement foam. New weatherstripping keeps the elements out, but the seller admits the doors need an extra “oomph” when shutting them and that the T-tops still leak. (Not that they’d ever see rain if this car was in our garage.) He also replaced the tachometer circuit board in 2021.

We’re of the opinion that the ’80-’82 Corvettes are some of the most beautiful cars ever built, though they do suffer from the common malaise of the time – low power output compared to later generations of Corvettes. But when you walk out to this beautiful car, don’t you just feel like you’re already moving 100 mph even when it’s sitting still?

  1. This is a stunning example of a yellow 80 Corvette. Super nice looking! Reading this article made me remember that I still have a nice showroom poster of a yellow 80 Corvette with a woman standing beside it that I had forgotten about.

  2. My first Corvette was a 1980. Loved the car for 3 months and the t tops got stolen. Loved it another 2 months and the Vette got stolen. They recovered the windshield frame and firewall with the VIN tag still intact.Bought a new 1981 and it went when my eldest and second went to college. Now have my third Corvette. 70th Anniversary Z51 HTC. Needless to say it’s a “little” faster than the 80 and 81 were, but I still think they were one of the sharpest Corvette body’s ever.Slow, but looking good doing it.
