The supercar hierarchy has officially been put on notice; the King of the Hill will return this summer, and he’s going to be more powerful and better balanced than ever! Corvette fans have been a spoiled bunch over the last quarter century. In that time span, we’ve been treated to an ever-escalating portfolio of horsepower, top speed, acceleration, and lap time records AND the automotive industry’s white whale – the mythical mid-engine Corvette – finally came to fruition!
All of these achievements and the world’s inclination towards recency bias make it easy to forget what is arguably (it certainly gets this blogger’s vote) the most significant bomb that General Motors has ever tossed in the middle of the toffee-nosed Euro-centric world of go-fast automobiles: the C6 ZR1. It was the all-powerful entity that really rattled the establishment’s cage and cemented the modern Corvette as not only a giant slayer, but a legitimate contender for the global sports car crown.
We could go on and on about its accolades, but luckily, MotorWeek and the great John Davis are here to jog your memory about exactly how impressive the Blue Devil was when it swaggered on to the scene with its LS9 roar. Enjoy as the MW crew puts a beautiful Atomic Orange (one of just 35!) example through its paces… in standard definition for this half of the week’s Retro Review!

Freakin awesome!! Love that car. I have a 11′ C6GS 3LT manual that I love, but damn I would love to have one of these. Only drawback is the top doesn’t come off on the ZR1.
The C6 ZR1 is the Beauty and the Beast! Pure raw American Muscle boys and girls!
Definitely one of the few true super cars. Only Corvette that is better is the 2019 ZR1.
