Over the years we’ve detailed C8 Corvette Coupe’s innovative engine bay that allows its owners to see their glorious V8 engines on display under the rear engine hatch. Engineers have previously referred to this as the Corvette’s “jewel under glass,” and it’s one of the main reasons why owners opt for the Coupe over the very convenient Hardtop Convertible model.

But many new Coupe owners are shocked at how the cooling vents which surround the rear hatch glass allows water into the engine bay when washing the car, and then that requires spending additional time to clean up the engine bay after each wash. Chevrolet told us from the beginning of C8 that the water simply drains out the bottom of the car, but all that excess water does leave a mess behind. When the C8 was first introduced, several YouTubers documented the excess water issue by placing a camera in the rear engine bay and then running it through a car wash.

Lucky for you C8 Corvette Coupe owners, there is a handy product out there that mitigates water entering the engine compartment when you are washing your Corvette, and they are called C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks. As our friend Mike Brink from Brink of Speed says, these are “for the new C8 Corvette owners who need it, but they just don’t know it yet.”

C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks

C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks are engineered and precision laser cut to fit directly in each of the engine bay vents surrounding the rear glass, as well as the larger opening at the bottom of the glass window. Made from single cell and hydrophobic materials, these Dry Bay Vent Blocks are inserted into each of the vents. Now as you hand wash your Corvette, the water flows over and around the dry vent blocks, and they help to keep that excess water from entering the engine bay.

Each set of C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks contains six individually sized Vent Blocks plus one Back Window Opening Block, and they are shipped in a handy storage bag. Regularly priced at $129 per set, CorvetteBlogger readers can score a 10% discount using the promo code “VETERAN” when ordering.

C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks

The C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks were invented by a C8 Corvette owner named Amora Scott and they are manufactured in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Vent Blocks will fit all years and models of C8 Corvette Coupes including the Stingray, Z06, and E-Rays. For questions about the C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks, email her at [email protected]. 1. Totally necessary. You would have thought that GM would have designed a system of drain off water without totally messing up the engine bay each wash.

  2. Potential consequences of getting water into your engine bay:

1.Thermal shock- sudden change in temperature, causes material to expand or contract at different rates, which may cause engine block, exhaust manifolds, or cylinder heads to crack.

2.Electrical damage- water is a conductor of electricity, which may cause a short circuit, and potentially lead to a fire.

    3. Corrosion- water contains dissolved minerals that can be left behind when it evaporates.

    Many thanks,
    Ray

  3. More convenient solution: Get a convertible.
Considering the amount you’re already spending, spring for an extra 8k and your car will be impressive enough without having to show off the engine. And it will be way easier to put the top up and down.
