Arrest Warrant Issued for Chiefs WR Rashee Rice in Corvette-Lamborghini Crash

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice could face years in prison after being charged for his part in a multi-vehicle crash involving his Corvette Stingray and a Lamborghini Urus he was leasing.

Dallas Police announced Wednesday that an arrest warrant has been issued for Rice, who has admitted driving the Lamborghini. He faces eight felony charges, including six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault. The driver of the Corvette, 21-year-old Theodore Knox, faces the same charges. Their passengers will not be charged.

It’s unclear when the two drivers will be taken into custody. Published reports explain that suspects are usually allowed by the Dallas Police Department to turn themselves in before officers are sent to arrest them.

“This case was conducted as all cases are conducted, thorough and fair, as that is what all victims deserve and what our city demands,” DPD Chief Eddie Garcia said Wednesday. “An investigation has no timeline. We will not be pressured, and we will do what is right. Our men and women work to determine who is involved and how they were involved, conduct interviews, and gather evidence to build a solid case to hold people accountable for dangerous conduct in our city. I am proud of the work they do each day, and I am proud to be their Chief.”

The investigation determined two drivers – Rice in the Urus and Knox in the Corvette – were speeding in the far left lane of North Central Expressway in Dallas on March 30 when they caused a chain reaction collision involving four other vehicles. All the occupants of the Lamborghini and Corvette were captured on video fleeing the scene, leaving the other victims behind without exchanging information or checking on their condition.

Two of the crash victims had to be taken to the hospital, including a husband and wife described as “angry” by their lawyer Tennessee Walker. He told WFAA.com that the man had to crawl out of the back window after the crash, and his wife had to be pulled out of the driver’s seat by rescue crews. “She had a very big laceration on her left eye. She’s got several stitches that were put in at the hospital, and the eye socket is completely swollen and black and blue,” Walker said.

Police found marijuana in both the Corvette and Lamborghini, along with credit cards, a $16,500 check, a diamond chain, and the Chiefs playbook. No possession charges for the marijuana were filed.

Collision involving injury, a third-degree felony, is punishable by imprisonment of two to 10 years, with the sentence for aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, being two to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Despite the serious charges, however, at least one Dallas defense attorney believes Rice won’t serve prison time, since the injuries caused by the crash weren’t critical, he’s young, and he’s promised to compensate all the victims. “If he is well represented, he won’t go to prison,” George Milner told WFAA. “I don’t think any of the victims want him to go to prison–I don’t know that for certain but most of them likely want to be compensated and that’s a play for his case.”

In an earlier statement on his Instagram page on April 3, Rice said he was cooperating with the investigation into the crash and accepted “full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities.”

“I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted,” Rice added.

  1. Itz all about the money, if it settled out of court , w/o charges being filed, the Gov would not get ‘ their share of that NFL money’……

  2. Rice added, “I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted…………that I got caught”. So give me a number for the check, I got to go, my new car is waiting.

  3. I hope the Dallas Police and Prosecutor demand Jail time and add Additional Charges for Fleeing the Scene of a Crash (Accident) also

  4. Constantly see the 13% do this kind of behavior on my highways. Had 2 in rice burners go by me in the rain doing well over 100. I was running 70 and they passed like I was was sitting still. Funny, later down the road State police were handcuffing one of the drivers. Had to laugh. He may have been a NFL player, just kidding.
