Corvettes for Sale: 1982 Collector Edition with 24K Miles Offered on Craigslist

If the world didn’t like to bring old Corvettes back to life, we’d all be driving immaculate trailer queens.

That’s why a market exists for cars like this 1982 Collector Edition that’s definitely seen better days but has the potential to be a very nice example with enough attention.

The seller, who’s located near Chicago, bought it as a parts car and is now offering it for $5,200 firm – with no title as it was purchased from a storage auction buyer. In case that’s too much of a gamble for you, he also has a more complete CE available – with a title – for $12,000.

Surprisingly, the parts car is said to have only 24,540 miles – even the original GM fan belts are still in place as proof. But apparently it sat outside for a long time and the special silver beige paint has faded, especially on the hood. Meanwhile, the door panels, carpet, and rear package tray are missing, along with the horn button on the steering wheel and the Corvette emblems on the front and rear. The special two-tone leather seats will need to be recovered, too. We’d also be wary of the hatchback that was the first C3 with opening glass, because we’ve heard that the struts can sometimes give problems with age.

On the bright side, the seller says the car has “good glass,” and the doors are “firm” and the body panel gaps “perfect” on a “virgin body never hit” with “all original stripes on every panel.” The frame is described as “very solid” with “no rust flakes.”

While the ’82’s Cross-Fire injection 200-horsepower engine has been ridiculed over the years for its lack of performance, the good news is that this car still has its original powertrain, including the 700R4 automatic transmission, though they’ll likely need some attention after being neglected for so long. An external fuel source has been used to crank the engine, which still “sounds healthy” with “NO lifter tick at all,” according to the listing. The seller also notes that upon first inspection, the car had full bright green antifreeze and clean oil. Furthermore, he scoped the cylinders and found no corrosion and low carbon, more evidence he says of the low mileage.

While the parts to restore this car (one of 6,579 examples built) are probably out there somewhere, they could be expensive or hard to find, so we might be inclined to pay a little more up front and get a more polished example. What do you think?

  1. I wouldn’t even consider this car. I would keep looking for a much better one. There’s still some nice Collector Editions out there.
