Dana Mecum’s 37th Original Spring Classic is underway on May 10th at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds. The exciting auction action runs all the way through May 18th. Over the 9-day event, Mecum expects 3,000 cars to cross their famous red carpet.

As always, a myriad of Corvettes has already been consigned. Browsing the docket, we see over 300 Corvettes consigned to Indy covering all eight Corvette generations. While many of the cars are listed by individual sellers, many more can be found in one of the great collections being offered. In fact, there are 16 collections heading to Indy with one or more Corvettes in them.

With that, here’s our look at some of the collections that deserve your affection at Mecum Indy 2024.

Corvette Evolution Collection

Corvette Evolution Collection

The Corvette Evolution Collection is the most prolific offering with 34 Corvettes all selling at no reserve. This collection is a colorful walk through five generations of Corvette that’s loaded with Corvette royalty. It kicks off with not one, but two 1953 Corvettes. Both VIN 173 and VIN 178 will find new owners. C2 fans will want to check out the Riverside Red 1963 coupe and the silver 1964 fuelie convertible that is one of just 29 produced with the J56 brakes. On the C3 side, expect big sales from the uber rare Corvette Bronze 1970 ZR1 convertible and the Steel Cities Gray 1971 LS6 coupe. Later model fans can bid on a black 1991 ZR1 or a 2003 50th Anniversary Edition convertible. For something a little different, don’t miss the unique 1982 DeMarco Convertible.

The Tom E. Smith Collection

The Tom E. Smith Collection

The Tom E. Smith Collection checks in second with 14 Corvettes for your bids on Friday, May 17th. A great red 1957 convertible and a black 1961 fuelie are some of the elegant straight axle cars available. The C2’s consist of a 29k mile 365hp 1965 coupe, a 350hp 1966 convertible, and a mighty red 427/390hp 1967 convertible. We’re quite smitten with the blue 1972 LT-1 convertible and others may find themselves ogling the green 1968 convertible or the red 1969 convertible both powered by the 427/435hp engine.

The Black Corvette Collection

The Black Corvette Collection

If you’re going through a goth phase or just love black, the Black Corvette Collection may be right up your ally. It features two C1’s and five C2’s in Henry Ford’s favorite color. The midyear lineup is a murderer’s row of Corvette royalty. Check out this hitlist: 1963 fuelie coupe, 1963 Z06 coupe, 1967 350hp black / white convertible, 1967 400hp 4-speed A/C convertible, and a 435hp 1967 coupe. Keep an eye on that Z06 as it could be among the top selling Corvette of the auction.

The Apex Collection

The Apex Collection

The Apex Collection returns with seven more Corvettes in Indy. In addition to a 1965 big block convertible and a 1970 LT-1 coupe, several low mile cars will tempt your wallet. Take your choice from the 8k mile 1972 coupe, the 5k mile 1978 pace car, the 60-mile 2008 pace car, the 6k mile 60th anniversary ZR1, or the 1,600 mile 2023 Z06 coupe.

From the Jim Anderson Corvette Collection

From the Jim Anderson Corvette Collection

Our favorite Mecum Indy collection belongs to noted collector and friend Jim Anderson who’s offering six 3rd generation cars from his extensive stash of Corvettes. All cars are highly awarded within the Corvette community. The rare orange 1972 ZR1 coupe will steal the show, but keep your eye on the green 1968 435hp coupe, the 3k mile 1972 coupe, and the War Bonnet Yellow 1972 LS5 coupe.

The Corvette A/C Collection

Corvette A/C Collection

As summer heats up you’ll want to stay cool with the Corvette A/C Collection made up of 8 midyear Corvettes all sporting air conditioning. This cool group of cars features four 1963 A/C coupes, two 1967 A/C convertibles, a 390hp 1967 A/C coupe, and a white 1964 A/C coupe.

Team Penske Collection

Team Penske Collection

Team Penske and Indianapolis go hand in hand so it’s only logical that we’d see some Corvettes from the collection of Roger Penske and Team Penske at Mecum Indy. This group features pace car replicas from 2003, 2006, and 2015. A 2019 Grand Sport completes the group.

Other Collections Include:

2024 Corvette E-Ray

Those shopping for an E-Ray should check out the Private No Reserve collection and its Torch Red on red 2024 E-Ray convertible. Other lots here include an orange 2023 convertible and a yellow 2016 Z06 coupe.

If a C8 E-Ray isn’t your thing but a C8 is, then look to the 2021 Stingray in the Collins Collection or the 2023 Z06 Coupe in the Mike’s Toy Box Collection.

1978 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car

Special edition Corvettes are spread throughout the Indy docket. The Frank Micoli Collection holds two 2007 Ron Fellows Edition Z06s including the last one made, No. 399. Over in the Texas Movie Car Collection you’ll find a 13k-mile 1995 pace car, and the no reserve Eric von Scheldorn Collection hosts 2005 and 1978 pacers in addition to another 1953 roadster.

Finally, see the Glenn Boyd Collection’s 1993 convertible and the Sherwood Collection’s big block 1966 coupe and 1970 convertible for even more great cars crossing the block at No Reserve.
