In February 2023, enthusiast Corey Peterson released a video stating that he’d discovered the first production Corvette. That 1953 had long been thought to have been destroyed after testing, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

This potentially game-changing Corvette has been sitting in an Oklahoma repair shop for 20-some years after the owner failed to come up with payment for the work performed. Ironically, it was found in the same shop as the famous VIN 003 Corvette.

Flash forward to 2023 when Peterson succinctly presented all his evidence on VIN 001 and several other very early Corvettes. Had the 70-year-old mystery of VIN 001 finally been solved?

If you’re as curious about this story as we are, then you’ll want to mark your calendar now for the June 2024 Bloomington Gold show taking place on the campus of Illinois State University. There, you’ll get a firsthand look at this unique Corvette and hear about its history from Cory Peterson himself.

The VIN 001 Corvette will be parked front and center on the patio between Horton Field House and CEFCU Arena for all to see. Additionally, Cory Peterson will be giving daily presentations and walkarounds talking about the car. Here you’ll get hear about and see the evidence that indicates this could very well be the actual first production Corvette.

Exact times of the daily seminars haven’t been released yet so keep in an eye on the Gold School schedule on BloomingtonGold.com for times.

Bloomington Gold’s June 2024 event runs June 21st and 22nd on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. Presale tickets are available now. Prices are $30 for a day pass or $55 for a weekend pass. Those costs go up by $5 at the gate.

  1. The National Corvette Museum should purchase this first Corvette with a nice large bag of money donated from Chevrolet’s massive profits for all 8th Generation of new Corvettes that has been sold throughout the World!
Then have a new display made for the Museum that showed the actual assembly plant area in Flint, Michigan to educate all of the current and future Corvette fanatics on “Where It All Got Started”
“On June 28, 1953, workers at a Chevrolet plant in Flint, Michigan, assemble the first Corvette, a two-seater sports car that would become an American icon. The first completed production car rolled off the assembly line two days later, one of just 300 Corvettes made that year.”
    Thanks for Listening!
Do not tell Rick Hendrick about this Corvette, please.
