I don’t know exactly when the former Beatle purchased his Blue C5 Corvette Convertible, but he’s been its owner for nearly as long as we’ve been blogging about ‘Vettes.
It’s pretty cool that he drives an American sports car while working/staying in California, and doubly so that he enjoys the C5 enough to keep it all these years. Of course, in Tinseltown, he’s much more incognito in the 20-year-old car than behind the wheel of something newer, so there’s probably a sense of security as well.
We’re saying all this as our friend Mike Furman shared an instagram video of Sir Paul McCartney departing a music studio in his C5 Corvette Convertible, while fans line the driveaway and give him an appreciative send-off.
On Mike’s instagram page, he’s taking a poll on whether or not you think the car is a manual or automatic? We get a glimpse of the shifter as the car drives by, so give us your best guess in the comments below!

My guess is it is an automatic. The shifter appears to have the auto trans shift knob button on it.
It’s a manual ,
You can see it on the interior shot and hear him shift driving away from the studio….
Update. I subscribe to Road & Track’s daily newsletter. Today (Monday) they also had an article about Paul’s C5 and said it appears to be an automatic transmission car.
