In case you missed yesterday’s bombshell report from our intrepid founder, the Corvette’s exterior color palette will undergo wholesale changes for 2025. A shift of this magnitude is unprecedented in the modern history of America’s Sports Car, and the end goal of the people pulling the strings is to get back down to 10 paint options from the current high water mark of 14.
We already figured that the newly announced Competition Yellow and the return of Sebring Orange likely spelled the end of Amplify Orange and the controversial Accelerate Yellow. Likewise, another option would have to be retired to make way for “Hysteria” purple, but now we’ve learned that another four paint codes are on their last leg as a part of General Motors’ mysterious 2025 model year paint purge.
Now we know the full list of colors on the chopping block are as follows:
• Amplify Orange
• Accelerate Yellow
• Silver Flare
• Hypersonic Gray
• Cacti
• Carbon Flash Metallic
• Ceramic Matrix Gray
As Keith mentioned in the original release, a lot of this makes sense, as Chevrolet never fully utilized the 14-paint rotation and instead allowed a good amount of overlap. Obviously, the old Yellow and Orange are getting outright replaced, but beyond that pair, there are some surprising and not-so-surprising paints getting put out to pasture.
Ceramic Matrix Gray has felt like it’s been on thin ice for a while. With its overly subtle variation on the Corvette staple that is Arctic White and the availability of Hypersonic Gray AND Silver Flare Metallic, we were already dealing with an overabundance of grayscale tones. Then, once Sea Wolf Gray hit the order guide last year, CMG really lost its raison d’être, becoming a completely understandable cut.
What is surprising is that Hypersonic and Silver Flare will be following it out the door, leaving Sea Wolf as the only option for the thousands of fans of gray and silver paint out there!
Also receiving their curtain calls are Carbon Flash Metallic (leaving Black, once again, as the lone, um, black paint option) and the short-lived Cacti. We’ll be sad to lose the unrivaled metal flake of Carbon Flash, but completely understand Chevy sticking with the original Black that regularly tops the annual most-popular paint list. Finally, even though it isn’t going to fare nearly as well in approval rates, we are surprised to see GM pull the plug on Cacti after just one trip around the sun. It is the signature hue of their highly-publicized E-Ray, after all, but when trimming half of last year’s colors, we suppose tough calls have to be made!
Surprising or not, agree with the decision or not, our question to our passionate readership isn’t about the whys surrounding the 2025 exterior options; it is a way to give these seven bits of Corvette history a proper burial. Is this the first time since the C1 they aren’t offering Silver? I voted for missing Hypersonic Gray the most, but I’m the most surprised by the lack of Silver. Remember half of their ERay marketing showed the Silver ERay with the blue stripe. It was front and center at Carlisle. Given the snail’s pace of ERay production, there will only be a few of those produced.
None. Don’t care. I am keeping my C7 Grand Sport M7. I have had it since new for 5 years, no problems except dusty brake pads. Solved by going to ceramic.
My wife and I fell in love with Ceramic Matrix Gray at the 25th NCM Anniversary Celebration.
It’s not white nor white diamond. It’s a very unique chameleon “bluish hue” with Tension Blue interior. Wow, we were in a “love affair” with the C8. We waited till January 29,2022 to place our order for our 3 LT Z51 C8 Stingray Ceramic Matrix Gray with Tension Blue interior. Our C8 was built December 4, 2023. It started its 3000 Status August 4, 2023. A very long journey. And along the way there was talk of CMG being dropped for 2023, and then again in 2024. We have an E-RAY on order and yes it’s CMG with TB interior? But that looks like we would go with our next choice, Silver Flare. Oh, that’s gone too!. As some car companies do offer certain “premium” colors for additional cost. We would be willing to consider that option, and another money stream for GM. Please give some consideration for “premium” color options. Your phenomenal paint shop can do wonders??? With over 11,000 ways to personalize the C8, why not “premium” colors?
I miss Blade Silver Metallic and Zeus Bronze.
If you guys think the Corvette palette is terrible go and look at the CT4/5 offerings from Cadillac. It’s dark days at GM for anyone who likes good color choices.
The C8 is by default an extroverted design. It screams for attention. I fail to understand why people would want such a car and then adorn it in the most mundane and insipid colors. Fortunately for the colorblind population–there is a wide assortment of wraps and PPF that will please the color-sight challenged.
Cacti should not be mourned. It was destined for one-and-done status.
The only colors that can be mourned here are Accelerate Yellow and Amplify Orange. It is up for debate as to which is more shameful to be deleted. Both AY and AO are far brighter than any predecessor variants; which is a good thing. AO had a shorter run, but Sebring Orange isn’t nearly as repugnant in comparison to AO as previous yellows are compared to AY.
GM puts far too much red in its yellow offerings, and far too much blue (and frequently black) in its purple offerings.
I agree with IPD mostly. They are correct about GM’s terrible color offerings.
I will totally miss the AY and somewhat the CMG.
PS: All GM has to do is look at the Mustang and Lambo colors.
