The quickest Corvette ever to be produced, the 2024 Corvette E-Ray, has been named as the official pace car for the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 26th. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway made the announcement this morning and shared these photos of Chevy’s first performance hybrid dressed in its pace car livery.
With the E-Ray, there are a lot of “firsts” being mentioned. It’s the first ever electrified Corvette via its All-Wheel Drive (eAWD) capability as it was designed for year-round performance, and it’s the first hybrid to lead the pack of IndyCar racers to the green flag and the start of the Indy 500 race.
The E-Ray features the award-winning 6.2-liter 495-hp LT2 V8 engine in the rear of the car while the front wheels are powered by the 160-hp electric motor. An array of batteries measuring 1.9kw resides in the Corvette E-Ray’s central tunnel and they rapidly recharge primarily through braking to power the front motor. Together, the Corvette E-Ray offers 655-hp combined!
“We are proud to announce the E-Ray, which is the first electrified and quickest production Corvette ever, will be pacing the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500,” said Scott Bell, global Chevrolet vice president. “As we often say, Chevrolet and INDYCAR share the same spirit of competition and performance-oriented, cutting-edge technology, making E-Ray the perfect fit to pace this year’s race.”
As for the official pace livery, the E-Ray starts out as an Arctic White 3LZ Coupe with Natural interior, and it’s wearing the light-weight visible Carbon Fiber wheels with its standard Michelin all-season performance tires. The E-Ray features the Indy 500 graphics on the doors, with the words “Official Pace Car” appearing under the E-Ray badge just in front of the rear tires while a race graphic appears just behind the tires. The iconic “flying wheel” graphic is placed on the rear quarter panels and there is also a large “E-RAY” graphic on the hood in Red and White and it’s trimmed with what looks to be a beige color with a black outline.
The 2024 Corvette E-Ray Official Indy 500 Pace Car marks the 21st time that America’s Favorite Sports Car has paced the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, and it’s the 35th time overall for Chevrolet. Corvettes has also paced the Indianapolis 500 for the last 8 consecutive years.
“As we anticipate another record-breaking Indianapolis 500, it’s only fitting that the quickest production Corvette will pace the field,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “The performance enhancements tested on the track make their way to the street, and the Corvette E-Ray is a prime example of that Chevrolet innovation.”

Too bad Cheverolet doesn’t sell E-Rays. They just hype them.
They should have picked a more dynamic looking color than plain looking refrigerator white for the Pace Car.
That’s a clean looking really classy good looking vehicle!!!!!
It would sell nicely as a 1 of 500 Limited edition model.
Does not interest me at all !!!
I’m interested Bob, but I would have liked to have seen a better color chosen than Arctic White.
White is the choice of car color of the perfectionist, they perhaps have an obsession for cleanliness. Also white is associated with simplistic, modern or futuristic devices, so it could be suggested a love for technology.
Many thanks,
Ray
Oh look. Bob isn’t interested. Color me shocked.
This is a pathetic, uninspiring livery. Befitting the uninspiring color selection that GM uses for the C8.
