Shift Sector hosted a Standing Start Half Mile event in Hondo, Texas this weekend and one of the participants was Johnathan Walker in his 2008 Corvette Z06. He posts under the Corvette Forum name of jayyyw and offered up a video showcasing his runs on the airport runway.
Johnathan says that conditions weren’t that ideal with a ~20 mph headwind and 2000+ DA. His three runs were 172 mph, 178 mph and 174 mph. He says that on his first run, he says the track was dusty and so he started a little slower to get traction and then went to second gear as soon as he could. However, at the end of the run the car shut off while he was slowing down and wouldn’t restart. The tow truck driver came up and noticed fuel leaking from the car. Turned out a fuel rail had come loose, and a fuel injector popped out and was draining the fuel.
After putting the injector back in place and tighten down the fuel rail, he was ready for run #2 and that’s where he ran his fastest time of the day at 178 MPH, earning him a trophy in the event! His third and final run he describes as a pedal-fest but still manages a speed of 174 MPH.

The video shows both an in-car view with a Dragy doing the timing, and then a second view shows the car racing down the runway. In the video, the competitors in the other lane both out launch the Z06, but he flies by them by the end of the run. Johnathan says the second place finisher in his class was another NA Z06 which ran the half mile in 164 mph.
