PK Carsport Corvette C6.R Wins the 24 Hours of Spa

PK Carsport Corvette C6.R Wins the 24 Hours of Spa

It was a battle between Corvette and Maserati for what could be the final run of GT1 race cars at the 24 Hours of Spa. In the end, it was the PK Carsport C6.R driven by Mike Hezemans, Anthony Kumpen, Jos Menten and Kurt Mollekens that finish a comforable 11 laps ahead of the Vitaphone Racing Team (DHL) Maserati MC12.

Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin was driving at Spa this weekend for the Belgian FIA GT Selleslagh Racing Team (SRT). Gavin was leading at 21 hours when the car developed a serious oil problem and spent the majority of the final hours in the garage. It would come out and complete a final lap for certification and finished 19th overall.

Another member of the Corvette Racing Team, Marcel Fassler, faired much better with the Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS. Fassler and co-drivers Henri Moser, Alexander Margaritis, and Marc Besseng dominated the G2 category and rose up the standings during the cool night hours. Unable to hold off the resurgent Vitaphone Maserati, the Audi R8 finished 15 laps down for third overall.

This is the second win in two years for PK Carsport Corvette at the 24 hours of Spa.

Corvette Museum to Raffle One-of-a-Kind 2010 Grand Sport at 15th Anniversary Celebration

The National Corvette Museum will be celebrating their 15th Anniversary celebration in early September and one of the high points of the 4-day event will be the raffle of this one-of-a-kind NCM 2010 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe.

The Corvette to be raffled is a collector’s dream. The Arctic White 2010 Corvette Grand Sport features a unique black hood treatment featuring Corvette Racing’s Jake mascot ghost painted in the center bulge, much like those found on the 2009 GT1 Championship Editions. A red stripe outlines the hood graphics and compliments the Grand Sport’s red hashmarks on the fender. The National Corvette Museum logo on the B-pillar adds the finishing touch on this special edition.

Other options on this Corvette is a 6-speed manual transmission, chrome wheels, dual mode exhaust, black headlights and a ZR1 rear spoiler. Inside you’ll find red two-tone leather seats and a audio system with touch-screen navigation.

“You can summarize the car this way,” Tadge Juechter, Chief Engineer of the Corvette said, “Zero to sixty in four seconds; 26 miles a gallon.”

Only 2009 tickets will be sold at a cost of $150 each making your odds of winning very good. The Corvette will be raffled on the final day of the 15th anniversary celebration on Sunday, September 6th at 10:00am CST. Cash prizes are also part of the raffle with a 2nd place winner receiving $10,000 and a 3rd place winner taking home $5,000.

“This special ‘one off’ NCM Corvette Grand Sport coupe was created and inspired by the hard work and dedication of the people who work at the National Corvette Museum,” said Kirk Bennion, Corvette Designer. “The chosen colors of white, black, and red were based on the NCM logo. The stripe design embodies the true ‘passion for competition’ that the Museum has for Corvette’s long racing heritage. The Corvette Museum not only displays Corvette’s history but is also dedicated to presenting Corvette’s latest offerings. This is why we chose the new for 2010 Corvette Grand Sport for NCM’s 15th Anniversary!”

The Museum’s 15th anniversary celebration begins on Thursday, September 3rd when over 5,000 Corvettes will convene in Bowling Green, caravanning from all 48 States. During the 4-day celebration, enthusiasts can participate in events which include seminars, road tours, special displays, parades, auctions, a live concert and the main event which is the official grand opening of the newly expanded National Corvette Museum.

Details of the raffle and the Museum’s 15th anniversary celebration can be found on the National Corvette Museum’s website.

Upgrade Your Corvette’s Rear with LED Brake Lights

by Keith Cornett on July 23, 2009

Upgrade Your Corvette's Rear with LED Brake Lights

One of the hot new upgrade trends for Corvette owners is replacing the standard tail lights with new LED lights. The benefits of LED lighting are many. They are very reliable and will last for a long time. Lights containing many LEDs are brighter than standard bulb-powered lights and because they draw less power than standard bulb lights, they are easier on the battery.

We checked with our friends at Ecklers Corvette Parts and they gave us this list of their best selling LED tail lights. The good news is that the process of installing these lights isn’t complicated and can be completed in an hour or two.

Corvette-Based SV 9 Competizione Ready to Impress

Late last week we began hearing whispers of a new Corvette-based custom coach from SV Motor Company. We contacted them and sure enough, they confirmed they have two units in the final assembly stage. Although SV will be introducing the 9 Competizione in the coming days, they were more than happy to provide us with an exclusive first look.

The SV 9 Competizione combines the powertrain of the world-class American-made Corvette C6 with a new Italian-styled custom coachbuilt body and upgraded interior. While the 9 C retains the distinctive C6 Corvette shape, the new custom body is full of design cues that shout “That’s Italian!” The result is one of best Corvette coaches we’ve seen in a field crowded with Corvette coaches.

The SV 9′s unique carbon fiber body was designed to allow the passage of high velocity air around and through the body surfaces. The front end is the most striking change with the mesh grillwork designed to capture maximum air while the vents on the hood and rear ducts keep the engine bay temperatures down and brakes cool. The rear end gets the Italian treatment as well with the Corvette’s dual brake lights converted from two per side to just one and the exhaust ports are split to each side.

All that carbon fiber goodness drops the curb weight of the standard Corvette C6 by 132 pounds to just 3085 lbs and provides a 50/50 front to rear weight distribution. As for performance, the base Corvette’s LS3 436 horses are bumped up to 450 and 445 lb ft of torque with SV’s revised intake and a custom-tuned exhaust. The ANSA Automotive exhaust system is based from their designs used on the Ferrari Daytona and 599. Estimates are the enhancements will propel the 9 Competizione to a 0-60 mph time of 4.0 seconds and 12.0 in the quarter mile.

Brakes and suspension have been specifically tailored for the SV 9 Competizione. Lateral acceleration is estimated to be 1.03g and braking 60-0 mph is an incredible 107 feet. Pirelli PZero Rosso ultra performance tires give the 9 C plenty of grip.

Inside the cockpit, the 9 C gets carbon fiber reinforced seating upholstered in hand-tooled Italian leather. Owners can opt for burlwood, carbon fiber or leather finished steering wheels that are custom matched to the instrument panel and console. In fact, SV takes the customization theme to a whole new level with the 9 C. 25 different exterior colors – 18 standard and 7 special edition colors – are available. Four wheel choices and five interior trim choices ensure that the odds of seeing two of a kind are virtually non-existent.

The SV 9 Competizione will be limited to 1,000 units at a cost of $99,995 which includes a new, well-equipped donor C6 Corvette purchased through their dealer network. Compared to other supercars and exotics, the Corvette-based SV 9 C might just be one of the best custom coachwork bargains of the year. The first showing of the SV 9 Competizione is this Saturday evening in San Francisco. The car will also be on display August 14 at the Concorso Italiano.

APB: Po-Po Driving a Confiscated Corvette Z06 in Raleigh, NC

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office just confiscated a Corvette Z06 from a baddie and turned it into an unmarked police car. This has been confirmed by several in the Raleigh area who have seen the car lit up like a Christmas tree along I40 as well as the guy who installed the light bar.

Posted on horsepowerjunkies.com was this quote supposedly from a Wake County Sheriff’s Deputy:

That SUM BITCH is BADD! It was a drug seizure vehicle, and the county nor the state spent a dime on that car except to put gas in it. All of the lights and equipment in the car is recycled from another cruiser that has been retired. The only way you will get away from this car is if you go through a parking lot with speed bumps, or cross a median.”

According to others that chimed in, the vehicle was donated by a local drug dealer who paid cash for the car. Other than time spent installing the light bar, no other expenses have been incurred in turning this Corvette into a police car.

“No expenses” may be the case, but wait until the Sheriff’s office needs to come up with $2K for a set of new tires!
