YouTube master Dennis Collins is on the prowl again in his latest video, hoping to confirm that a 1970 Corvette first-year LT-1 is the real deal.

Dennis takes us to the Texas dealership where he found the Daytona Yellow Corvette coupe that looks to be about as original as they come.

The only problem is, his buddy Darrell at the dealership says the previous owner – who has been undergoing treatment for cancer for about a year – can’t locate the paperwork proving the car is a genuine LT1 that left the St. Louis factory with a 350/370 horsepower solid-lifter engine and an M21 four-speed manual transmission.

A little sleuthing by Dennis and his cohort Alex, however, soon leads them to match up the carburetor, pad stamp, casting number, and rear end numbers and they conclude that it is indeed a real LT1, one of only 1,287 built that year, according to the Corvette Black Book. As insurance, they even insert a snake camera beside the fuel cap trying to get a look at the gas tank sticker, but are soon disappointed to find that it’s disintegrated so badly that they can’t make out any useful information.

They also believe that the 39,000 miles showing on the odometer are correct and also that it’s got the original paint and black leather interior. It does have some luxury options like the deluxe interior with woodgrain trim that debuted in ’70 as well as power windows. Unfortunately, just like the orange ’71 I used to own 15 years ago (boy, I wish that one was still in my garage!), it doesn’t have air conditioning as Chevy didn’t offer that option in the LT1 until 1972, the last year of production.

Watch as Dennis and crew load up this beautiful – looking and sounding – Corvette onto a trailer to get it headed back to their shop, where we see some before and after video of the paint as it’s undergoing correction. Dennis also takes the car for a fun spin after Alex worked hard to get it running sweeter than ever.

The car – one of 4,977 LT1s built from ’70 to ’72 – will soon be up for sale, Dennis says, so we say a little early congratulations to the new owner!
