[VIDEO] Commuting Around Town in the E-Ray's Stealth Mode is Harder than it Looks

One of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray’s party tricks allows its driver to utilize just the front electric motor as a way to make a quiet “neighborhood exit.” But others have been wondering about the range of Chevrolet’s first performance hybrid sports car, and if it makes sense to keep the car in Stealth Mode if your destination is under the 3-4 mile range that the E-Ray supposedly has on electric power.

One new owner of the Corvette E-Ray decided to test that theory by attempting to drive around his small New Hampshire town in just Stealth Mode and he says it’s a lot harder than it looks. Barry (aka /Bear/ on MECF) is the owner of the car and we had featured a video of his previously about making sure your High Voltage Battery System Coolant Reservoir Caps were tightened down.

In this video, Barry shows us the dash of the car as he attempts to navigate around town in Stealth Mode. Just the slightest extra pressure on the gas pedal puts the car into its flying start-up with the V8 engine rumbling to life. After several restarts and resets of the Trip 1 odometer, he tackles a hill in town and has no trouble there, and in fact he confirms that he got some additional range from driving down the other side, as the battery was being replenished during that section of his test.

During one of his longer Stealth Mode attempts, he got 3.6 miles before the engine kicked on with just a 21% charge remaining. While I’m slightly joking here, is that a new world record for longest drive in Stealth Mode? I think we need a leaderboard!

While in Stealth mode, Bear confirms that you can listen to the radio but that the HVAC controls are inoperable. However, Bear did confirm to us that you can put down the windows while in Stealth Mode as well. So, if it gets too warm in the cockpit while making your silent escape, at least there is that!

Thanks again for the fun video Bear! Check out his website at AWDCorvette.com.

  1. They keep touting the fact that you can sneak out of your neighborhood, but there’s no way to sneak back in on the fly.
