[SPIED] Corvette ZR1 Mules Testing in Ohio Ahead of the NCM Bash

With the recent announcement that Chevy will be revealing the new C8 Corvette ZR1 sometime this summer, interest in the car has skyrocketed. Now, adding some more fuel to this fire are these photos of five Corvette ZR1 mules spied on Monday afternoon in Southern Ohio.

The team has frequented the area with every single prototype since at least the C7 ZR1 days, and now they’re back to drive those curvy buckeye state roads which may include Ohio’s 555, which locals call the triple nickel. The two-lane road offers a great run for the Corvette team and seeing them return to drive it again may mean they are comparing data to their previous tests in the area.

A customer of Rick Conti ran into the engineering group at their hotel and managed to capture these photos of the cars parked outside. Rick shared the photos in the following Facebook post:

From what we can see, there are both Coupes and Convertibles in the group and we also see multiple high wings on the car. But I can’t really tell if any of those high wings are only on the coupes or on both body styles.

We also get one of our closest photos yet of the frunk with the air extractor in the middle of the hood. It looks like there still might be some storage area there under the hood, and that’s a major source of interest if storage space still exists up front. The Corvette Team has surprised us with storage space before so we’re anxious to see what’s there.

The side rockers and front splitter looks identical to those on the Z06, and we note the addition of the front canards on the front corners as well. The ZR1 widebody body is further contrasted with the Z06/E-Ray design with the inclusion of the side intakes on the rear quarter panels, and how they were incorporated into the “wishbone” side intake trim. Back at the Nurburgring, some of the car also had air extractors on the top of the rear deck, but the convertibles don’t seem to have them, and if they are on the coupes, they are covered by that additional engine camouflage.

You can view all eight photos of this ZR1 mule encounter on Rick’s Facebook page. If you see anything else that looks interesting, let us know in the comments below!
