I’ve been sort of dreading to write up this story but one of the reasons why we share Corvette accidents and crashes is to hopefully put that thought in your mind of what might happen should you engage in risky behavior with your car. This story is particularly heartbreaking because a father is now dead, and a young woman will now have to pay the consequences for her actions.

According to Fox10 in Phoenix, an 18-year-old woman named Rachel Berg was driving at speeds reaching 155 mph in a 2024 Corvette when she allegedly crashed into and killed a 46-year-old motorcyclist named Michael Clark on U.S. 60 in Mesa Arizona on the night of March 12th. Berg pulled over and attempted CPR on Clark when authorities arrived on the scene.

Rachel Berg

According to court documents, “The female driver told Department of Public Safetly (DPS) investigators she saw a motorcyclist in the HOV lane just ahead of her. She attempted to stop but rear-ended the motorcycle,” DPS said. “The motorcyclist went off left, struck the concrete wall and fell off the motorcycle. Both the rider and the motorcycle came to rest in the HOV lane. The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries.”

Investigators received a warrant and downloaded the data from the Corvette’s airbag control module which shows the Corvette was traveling 155 mph five seconds before the crash, and the despite her attempts to brake, she was still doing 87 MPH at the time the Corvette collided with Clark’s motorcycle.

Berg was arrested and charged with one count of reckless manslaughter. She is being held on a $150,000 bond.

Michael Clark

The victim, Michael Clark, was a veteran and former police officer with a decade of service in Tacoma, Washington. He was currently working as a Tempe Park Ranger. Clark was married to Laura Clark and was the father of several children.

Laura Clark said Berg’s alleged actions have devastated her family. “I think that young people sometimes think that they’re invincible. And don’t think their decisions through and it’s devastating. Families are torn apart,” Laura said.

It’s currently unknown who was the registered owner of the Corvette.

  1. What shame! Not only is a good man gone but his family will suffer the rest of their lives. And if she has any conscience at all she will suffer from what she did for the rest of her life. She is due a long time in prison for that!

  2. Unless she has a rich daddy, I can’t imagine an 18 year old owning a new Vette. I hope the actual owner of the car faces some charges for letting that KID drive it.

  3. Ms Berg apparently had some empathy for Mr Clark in that she stopped and performed life saving measures. All too often we see reckless drivers flee the scene. Doesn’t excuse her actions. Just a sad situation all around.

  4. 18 year olds can’t own a pistol because the gubmint doesn’t think they are responsible but can have a 155 mph Corvette.

  5. That’s what keeps me off bikes, however getting rear-ended in a car or suv at 87 mph might give the same result, or worse, being paralyzed for life. Tragic, unnecessary and stupid.

  6. Every time I take a short trip on the interstate it truly amazes me how many people drive like complete idiots. And it keeps getting worse each time!
