[VIDEO] 1978 Corvette Barn Find with 1599 Miles Gets First Wash in 45 Years

Do you remember the three C3 Corvettes we showed you a few weeks ago that had been parked in a garage and had accumulated layers of dirt and grime over the decades?

We were all worried that the cars might be a little monstrous under all that nastiness, but you’re in for a surprise in this new video from the boys at WD Detailing.

These guys apparently travel around the nation taking on impossible cleaning jobs of neglected cars just like this trio of collectible Corvettes – doing all the work for free just to generate some great YouTube content.

Today’s video shows them cleaning up the first of the three Corvettes – a 1,599.3-mile ’78 that I originally thought had the Silver Anniversary paint job but turned out to be Classic White after the guys got through with their magic.

Future videos will show them strutting their stuff on the other two barn finds – a ’78 Pace Car with 293 miles and an ’82 Collector Edition with just 33 miles.

The asking price for this collectible trio was a whopping $150,000, but they were apparently sold at no reserve. We don’t know what they fetched, so we’re hoping someone out there in Web Land can share the final price with the rest of us.

We knew all along from photos with the listing that the white ’78 had a pristine red interior, but we were concerned about the condition of the paint under all that dirt. Turns out that wasn’t a problem, other than some cracking on the rubber bumpers that would be an easy fix for a body shop. On the other hand, knowing the unusual history of this trio, would you rather leave the bumpers alone, a la survivor style?

We can’t wait to see the next two cars because they’re two of our all-time favorites. Do you think they’ll turn out as good as this white one?

  1. I hardly ever watch forty minute long videos but I watched all of this one. All I can say is WOW!!! These guys did a totally excellent job cleaning up this car. It looks immaculate now compared to how shitty it looked before they worked their magic on it. I also can’t wait to see how great the other two cars clean up. Keep these dude’s videos coming!

  2. I agree with Robert!!! The owner of the vehicle got a great deal when he authorized these gents to recondition this 78′. I wonder how many hours total they had into this project, and their cost of the perishable materials used.

  3. Love the video and appreciate all the work that went into cleaning it up. I was a bit surprised with all of the work on the tires. Even if they look pristine, they are still 46 years old. I wouldn’t use them on the road, but maybe this car won’t be driven and it may be desirable to leave them on the car.

Great job on the clean up!
