Corvettes on Craigslist: Nostalgic 1973 Corvette Drag Racer

This 1973 Corvette – labeled as a “Nostalgia Drag Car” by its current owner – certainly won’t win any “good neighbor” awards.

“When it starts up your neighbors will know,” according to a current ad on CraigsList out of the San Francisco Bay area.

The C8 Corvette, says Motor Authority, is one car to remember.

That’s the overriding reason why the website chose the new mid-engine Stingray as Motor Authority’s Best Car To Buy 2021.

I tell you what, there is nothing more spectacular than watching Corvette’s vehicle sales numbers during the model rollout of a new generation.

GM released its sales report for 4th Quarter 2020 and a total of 8,992 Corvettes were delivered during the three month time period. That’s an increase of 157.6% over the sales of Corvettes during the 4th quarter of 2019! For the Calendar Year of 2020, GM delivered a total of 21,626 Corvettes. That’s an increase of 20.2% over 2019’s Calendar Year Sales of 17,988.

As a C2 Corvette owner, I’ve always been a fan of the stinger hood and Chevy’s attempts at recreating the look via a Stinger hood graphic on the most recent generations have pretty much worked. However, when the 2021 options list showed a preview of the new Stinger graphics option, I found myself having a hard time embracing the new design.

Speedy Corvette Driver Arrested After Being Clocked at 155 MPH on I-10 in Phoenix

If the driver of this gray C7 Corvette was hoping that 2021 would be better than the pandemic-plagued 2020, he’s definitely getting off on the wrong foot.

In fact, his right foot has already landed him in a pile of trouble after Arizona troopers clocked him at 155 mph on Interstate 10 and Baseline Road in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Department of Public Safety posted a photo on Twitter on Jan. 2, showing the trooper’s laser gun with the speed of the Stingray in question, stopped on the side of the road in the background.

Jake Anthony Aiello, 25, was arrested Saturday but has already been released, with no word on the charges he’s facing.

DPS did tweet this message: “This is reckless, incredibly dangerous, and a great way to get yourself arrested – not such a great way to start your new year. Please drive responsibly & #SlowDown #AZTroopers.”

During a search on the Internet about the incident, we came across this assessment of the situation from one person: “That’s crazy … why would they arrest him for this? He’s in a car that can clearly handle speed and was built for it. Just cite him and release him.”

While he’s obviously right about the Corvette being built for speed, we do question the sanity of someone going that fast on any non-race track, with traffic all around. All it would take is another driver reaching for his cell phone or looking down to send a text to cause a split-second disaster. What’s your opinion?

[VIDEO] Did Chevrolet Accidently Leak a Video Showing a C8 Corvette Testing Active Aero?

Leading up to the reveal of the C8 Corvette back in July 2019, we were treated to a number of new patents that detailed active aerodynamics on the car. Active aero responds to the vehicle’s driving dynamics by using sensors and switches to deploy various panels, splitters, rockers, and spoilers to change the shape of the airflow as it travels around the car.

Have you seen this red C4 Corvette Convertible with mismatched wheels and a hardtop? If so, you could help authorities in solving a crime!

The red Corvette was captured on surveillance video during the robbery of an unoccupied home in Belmont, North Carolina back in October. The former owner of the house contacted us to see if we could help identify the Corvette used in the crime.

YouTuber Doug DeMuro says he consider only one car for his second annual “Doug of the Year” award for 2020.

Guess which one it was?

That’s right – the new mid-engine Corvette Stingray gets the nod as basically Doug’s version of the “Car of the Year,” and he says it wasn’t even close.

Remember not so long ago when rumors were circulating that the prototypes running around the country might not be mid-engine Corvettes after all, but were instead < AHREF="https://www.corvetteblogger.com/tag/cadillac/">Cadillacs?

That crazy speculation turned out to be just that, but what if General Motors’ flagship luxury brand really did come out with its own version of the new C8 Corvette?

The new mid-engine Corvette definitely doesn’t mind taking on challengers of all shapes and sizes, even humongous ones.

Witness this Torch Red 2020 Corvette driven by YouTuber Stefan of Mod2Fame taking on a much more seriously equipped Bugatti Veyron.

Introduced in 2005, the Veyron definitely carries a bigger stick with its quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 motor producing a whopping 987 horsepower, nearly double that of this stock Stingray’s 495 horses. This version of the Veyron was capable of reaching 253 mph, and the Grand Sport Vitesse was said to be the fastest roadster in the world, hitting 254.04 mph in one 2013 test.

You can see all the action late in this video, which starts out with the C8 rolling down the interstate before blowing away a Viper caught off guard on their way to Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists in Atlanta. Those “friends in high places,” as Stefan puts it, allowed a wide range of supercars to meet up in their parking lot, including Ferraris, Porsches, ZL1 Camaros, and more.

After some socializing between the drivers, the cars soon depart for some lighthearted hijinks on Atlanta interstates, but as a frequent traveler on these same roads, we’d much rather they’d take their competition to a safer spot like a drag strip. In fact, we have a good one just up the road in Calhoun at Paradise Dragstrip, which has been around for decades.

You can check out this “David and Goliath battle” between the “stupid, stupid fast” Bugatti and the Corvette at two intervals in the video, first at the 13:17 point and again at 14:06. We don’t have to tell you the winner.

Maybe the highly anticipated beefed-up versions of the C8 Corvette like the Z06, E-Ray, and Zora will be able to whip a Bugatti someday. For now, we Corvette enthusiasts will just have to settle for having a much cheaper oil change.

According to CNBC’s Make It program, an oil change for a Bugatti costs more than $20,000, no doubt because its dry-sump oiling system has 16 drain plugs, accessible only after spending hours intricately removing parts of the underbody.

Makes you appreciate that easily accessible oil pan plug in a C8 even more, huh?
