With the introduction of the new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport, Chevrolet has also unveiled its next “cutaway” display that allows enthusiasts to take a closer look at the next C8 Corvette to join the line-up.
During the NCM Bash at the Corvette Museum, the Grand Sport cutaway display was set up on the back patio. While we made sure to take plenty of photos of it for reference, we also found this walkaround video on YouTube from the Gary’s Rides channel featuring both the cutaway and the LS6 engine display.
Some of the notable features of the Grand Sport can be seen in the cutaway display. The Grand Sport has four intercoolers with two mounted in the front on each corner, and then each side intake also has one. There is no front center-mounted intercooler, so designers were able to block off that center area much like the Stingray’s front fascia and that design provides additional aerodynamics benefits as well.
We also get a great look at the Grand Sport’s center mounted exhaust and it confirms our suspicions that its similar to the Z06 in that it features the “parabolic reflection” design to bounce the exhaust note back towards the driver. However, according to the Corvette Team’s presentation, the Grand Sport’s exhaust system is different than the Z06 in these three ways:
- The LS6 muffler utilizes a unique exhaust pipe architecture which accentuates the cross-plane crank engine dynamics resulting in thrilling sound quality.
- The sound quality pipes are large diameter, high flow and low backpressure.
- First ever use of bi-state AFM valves plus continually variable exhaust valves which allows custom tuning in 2-degree increments for varying valve position in each Driver Mode.
We also get a nice walkaround of the new LS6 which was mounted on a display next to the cutaway Grand Sport. We noticed right away the “409” that is stamped on the block while the engine valve covers were presented in Edge Red with LS6 stamped on the sides.
The engine display also shows the new LS6 exhaust manifolds which are different than the LT2. The LS6 has a “Tri-Y” design instead of the LT2’s “4-into-1” design. GM says the new manifold “helps separate firing pulses to offer enriched exhaust note.”
Another big visual change is the larger throttle body which allows air into the engine. On the Stingray’s outgoing LT2 V8, that opening was just 87mm, but it has now grown to 95mm on the LS6. That’s actually the same size that was featured on the C7 ZR1’s LT5 engine.
Thanks again to GM for bringing out the special Grand Sport Cutaway display and to Gary’s Rides for capturing it on video during the 2026 Michelin NCM Bash.
