National Corvette Museum Names Four Inductees to the Corvette Hall of Fame Class of 2026

The Corvette Hall of Fame will welcome four new legends this September, each representing a different thread in the tapestry of America’s Sports Car. Announced during this week’s NCM Bash, the 2026 class spans design, product leadership, racing influence, and the storytelling that helped define Corvette culture.

For Kirk Bennion and Harlan Charles, the honor, in the GM-Chevrolet category, reflects decades spent shaping Corvette from the inside. Bennion, the soft‑spoken designer with an eye for proportion and purpose, joined Chevrolet’s Studio 3 in 1987 after early work on the Pontiac Fiero. Charles arrived in 2001, bringing a marketer’s instinct for what Corvette owners wanted before they even said it aloud. Together, they became two of the most recognizable faces of the Corvette team—standing shoulder to shoulder at product reveals, enthusiast gatherings, and interviews where they translated GM’s engineering ambition into language fans could feel.

Their fingerprints stretch across the C5, C6, and C7, but their influence crystallized with the mid‑engine C8. Bennion fought to ensure the car’s exotic silhouette never compromised its real‑world performance. Charles championed customer‑driven features, from performance packages to personalization options that honored Corvette heritage. Their shared passion for special editions strengthened the bond between the brand and its community. Different roles, same mission: elevate Corvette and the people who love it.

John Middebrook

In the Racing category, John Middlebrook enters the Hall as a GM executive who understood the power of motorsports. Over nearly 50 years with the company, he rose from Oldsmobile hire to Vice President of Global Sales, Service, and Marketing. But it was his tenure as Chevrolet’s General Manager, beginning in 1996, that left a lasting mark on Corvette. Middlebrook championed the factory‑backed racing program led by Herb Fishel and Doug Fehan, supported the Pratt & Miller partnership, and helped cement Corvette’s recurring role as a recurring Indianapolis 500 pace car. Even after moving into a broader GM vice president role, he remained a steady advocate for Corvette Racing’s growing dominance.

James Schefter

Rounding out the class in the Enthusiast category is James Schefter, the journalist whose book All Corvettes Are Red pulled back the curtain on the creation of the fifth‑generation Corvette. Granted unprecedented access inside GM, Schefter chronicled the personalities, pressures, and persistence that revived the Corvette program in the 1990s. His reporting became essential reading for enthusiasts, and he embraced the community in return, often arriving at events behind the wheel of his own C5.

Together, the 2026 inductees embody the passion, innovation, and storytelling that continue to propel Corvette forward. They will be inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 5 as part of the NCM’s 32nd Anniversary Celebration.
