General Motors CEO Mary Barra was interviewed Friday morning on Good Morning America from the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. The rumor from insiders is that Mary was in town to build an LT7 engine that will go in her Corvette ZR1/ZR1X.
However, nothing about “Corvette” was mentioned during the interview with Good Morning America’s Rebecca Jarvis, who focused on “the state of the U.S. Economy and the impact of A.I.”
Jarvis asked Barra about “rising gas prices” and how that may affect sales of GM vehicles, as well as if consumers are defaulting on loans. So far neither of these appear to be cutting into GM’s business and Mary touted GM having six very affordable vehicles starting under $30,000.
Another line of questioning had to due to “the impact of A.I” on jobs and Mary expresses optimism despite the interviewer seeing artificial intelligence as being hurtful to the jobs market. Mary says that “it’s hard to predict now what that balance is going to be, but I think there are whole new careers that are going to be coming that no one has thought of yet.”
Mary also talks about GM’s initiative with the Girls Scouts, and a local troop of girl scouts was there to meet with Mary inside the BGAP facility’s Performance Build Center where the Corvette’s high-performance engines are assembled by hand.

Thanks for cutting edge content, Keith! I always look forward to see what’s next in my inbox
Mary Barra should be embarrassed to be seen there – if she had her way all cars, including Vettes, would be powered by devices that have windings not pistons. Get rid of her before she totally ruins the GM brand.
Barra’s knee jerk reaction to EV’s had to be walked back or she would have bankrupted the company again! Furthermore, she’s a hypocrite for driving a Corvette ZR1X and not one of her electric Caddys.
I’m with Doug, Mary shouldn’t even be allowed to purchase her own ZR1/ZR1X, given that the Corvette would not even have an ICE…if she had her way.
The best use of AI will be to replace the interior and exterior design teams. Secondary will be the teams of people who determined that a manual trunk release and locking gas cap were “extraneous” features. AI will do a much better job of determining blind-spots in GM’s amenities offerings (eg. Adaptive Cruise, Ambient Lighting, Rear PDR recording, Camera Mirror that operates with the top down, etc).
