Well, that went fast! Of course, we’re talking about the sale of the first RETAIL 2025 Corvette ZR1 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale on early Saturday evening which was sold for $3.7 million.
This first new 2025 Corvette ZR1 with VIN 001 joins a long list of other first year Corvettes to be purchased by Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick. The proceeds of the charity sale will go directly to the American Red Cross.
Rick will have the opportunity to spec the new King of the Hill as a split-window coupe or a convertible, and we have a feeling that the renowned Corvette collector will have the car produced in Black like his previous VIN 001 Corvettes.

The Corvette ZR1 that hit the Barrett-Jackson auction block was a Black split-window coupe with the aero package which is punctuated with the addition of the High Wing in visible carbon fiber. It also has the Edge Blue dual racing stripe and the Blue forged aluminum wheels. A video that played prior to the sale showed off some of the highlights of the car, as well as scenes from the American Red Cross which is benefiting from the auction. Corvette Chief Engineer Josh Holder was also on stage to introduce the ZR1, calling it “an exceptional car for an exceptional charity.”
The twin-turbo sportscar is the fastest and quickest Corvette to be produced, with a top speed of 233 mph and it can go 0-60 mph in just 2.3 seconds. Production of the ZR1 is expected to start in 2nd Quarter. With the carbon aero package, the precision-built sports car can generate 1200 lbs of downforce!
The bidding opened at $1 million and ran up to $3 million before Craig Jackson announced the car sold to Rick Hendrick. Craig says that Rick has purchased 38 charity cars for over $28 million at Barrett-Jackson over the years.

Rick has purchased every new VIN 001 Corvette offered in the C8 era. In 2022, he paid $3.6 million for the first 2023 Corvette Z06. The 2024 Corvette E-Ray was purchased for $1.15 million and the very first 2020 Corvette Stingray was purchased for $3 million. He also has the first Stingray Convertible and the first Z06 Convertible.

On Monday, GM offered an update on the sale of the first 2025 Corvette ZR1 with new photos and quotes from the auction:
“The 1064 hp Corvette ZR1 is the pinnacle of American engineering,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet. “We at Chevrolet are proud to work with Barrett-Jackson and the Red Cross so that the historic sale of this American icon benefits people whose lives were impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton, countless disasters across the country.”

Corvette Chief Engineer Josh Holder introduced the quickest, fastest and most powerful Corvette ever before an engaged audience of bidders in the room and around the world, alongside representatives from the Red Cross. Minutes later, the winning bid was placed by Rick Hendrick, founder and CEO of Hendrick Companies.
General Motors and Chevrolet maintain a long-standing relationship with the Red Cross and regularly support the organization’s disaster relief efforts.
“The Red Cross is working around the clock to provide help and hope to people across the country impacted by disasters big and small, including wildfires, floods and other crises,” said Cliff Holtz, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. “We cannot thank Chevrolet enough for their tremendous generosity as we work together to offer critical relief and comfort to families and communities in dire need.”

Thanks to more than 15 years working with Barrett-Jackson and their charity auction program, Chevrolet has generated millions of dollars in donations for many great causes. This auction brings the total amount of money Chevrolet has raised at Barrett-Jackson charity auctions through the sale of eighth generation Corvettes to $12.9 million.
“General Motors has shared some of our biggest and most memorable moments when we have raised money together for charity on the Barrett-Jackson auction block,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Over the years, GM has entrusted Barrett-Jackson to sell some of their most coveted first-production vehicles for charity, and we’re honored to have continued that tradition in Scottsdale with the sale of the first retail production 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (Lot #3005). We made history by selling this rare collector vehicle for $3.7 million, while also helping the Red Cross fulfill its mission to feed and provide emotional support to victims of disasters. Between the recent hurricane on the East Coast and fires in California, the money is certainly needed.”

So, the bidding went to $3 mil when Craig Jackson announced the car was sold to Rick Hendrick? What the fuck was that all about?
And so….Rick Hendrick wins yet another VIN 001 Corvette auction. That was no surprise at all. Will be looking forward to seeing his personal build of it in his collection. The one featured on the auction block looks badass as hell and as sharp looking as they come!
Don’t forget folks the total purchase price is tax deductible that’s why he’s doing it he probably makes so much money he could buy multiple cars and still be okay it’s coming straight off of his taxes you guys
It was a setup. The bidding didn’t extend for any length of time to allow others to bid up the price. They auctioneer always extends time for bidding on a hot car. With the ZR1 he quickly ended it.
Who were the other bidders? Don’t you think there is at least one other uber wealthy bidder who wanted it for themselves? Or, is it just rigged every year for Rick?
Rick Hendrick is contracted with Chevrolet, the car was given to him preauction, they use the “charity” to show it’s legit. Just like Lewis Hamilton gets any Ferrari he chooses but no auction. That particular car sale was rigged.
Since the proceeds go to charity, is it a tax write off?
Probably grounds for a lawsuit if one of the other bidders wanted the car and could afford it. B-J is just so much BS.
