Chevrolet brought the 2024 Corvette E-Ray to South Florida for Barrett-Jackson’s 20th Anniversary auction in Palm Beach. Chevy showed off the hybrid-performance model in Riptide Blue Metallic paint, one of three new colors for 2024.
The Corvette E-Ray was a charity auction with 100% of the proceeds going to “DonorsChoose” charity “whose mission is for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences essential for a great education.”
On the stage introducing the new E-Ray was Corvette Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter who explained that this particular car on the stage was a preproduction model and that the people bidding today were bidding on history as they could build the very first Corvette E-Ray to their own specs. Tadge says:
“After 70 years of striving to perfect internal combustion, perfection in sports cars, we finally are going electric. We’re Electrifying this car but we’re doing it in a way that doesn’t distract from the driving experience, it only enhances everything about driving a Corvette.
SOLD for a great cause! The first retail production VIN 001 2024 @chevrolet #Corvette #ERay 3LZ just crossed the block for $1,150,000. 100% of the hammer price of this #eAWD Corvette will benefit @DonorsChoose, who make a difference in the lives of students and teachers everyday! pic.twitter.com/jfFUNmzaR7

Bidding for the car was fast with it reaching $1 million is just a matter of seconds. And after a pause it resumed with one final bid to hammer at $1.1 million. Another bidder then donated $50,000 to make a total donation of $1.15 million. It was announced that the buyer was Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick who had just added another VIN 001 Corvette to his extensive collection.
We hope to update this the actual video but here are some screen grabs from the auction:

“Only” $1.1 million…lol. Guess the Z06 was a much bigger “hit”. Let’s see what the ZR1 or what’s next does.
That was a waste of 1.1 million dollars.
Good point Holding on to my C7Z06.
WOW might be 2 seconds late on Quarter mile.
Yep hanging on to my 2019 Stingray too!
I hate that front end! It looks like a whale swallowing Krill. Is it designed that way for maximum air flow to cool the batteries and engine.
Fine lookin’ automobile.
And so…Rick Hendrick wins another auction for a VIN 001 Corvette. That was a no brainer. If he has it in his collection in time for the QCCC Corvette show in October at Hendrick Motorsports in Charlotte, I’ll check it out in person.
Yeah, I’ll keep my C6 Z06 with almost 100 more c.i. better gas mileage, a six speed and a beautiful body. Zoom Zoom.
Beautiful car and the money goes to a good cause.
