Visitors of all ages to the National Corvette Museum will soon have a chance to turn Hot Wheels cars into a fun experience while learning some scientific principles at the same time.

The NCM is teaming with Mattel – which has manufactured more than 11,000 variations of Hot Wheels cars and produced more than 4 billion diecast cars over the past 54 years – and The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis to host a new summer-long exhibit called “Hot Wheels Race to Win,” slated to run May 27 through Sept. 25.

Visitors to the NCM will work together to build and test the fastest and safest speed machines using Hot Wheels diecast cars to experiment and play.

“Generations of children have enjoyed the thrill and speed of racing with Hot Wheels, and this new interactive exhibit now brings families together to learn what brings racing to life in a fun and memorable way,” said Julie Freeland, senior director, Global Live Events & Attractions, Mattel.

Making learning both interesting and educational is the ultimate goal of the exhibit, which investigates the scientific process for designing super-fast cars and how that speed is ultimately achieved.

“This family learning experience provides hands-on opportunities for parents to explain complex physics concepts in fun ways utilizing the popular Hot Wheels toy cars as they experiment with different principles to see which makes a car go fastest,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO of the museum that produced the exhibit, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

The exhibit includes the Pit Stop Challenge, where children and families will race the clock and each other to change tires and refuel cars. Visitors will also be able to test their theories about the science of racing and cause and effect, using a six-lane downhill speed track, booster power track, adjustable angles track, and timing track.

Also featured will be real race car parts, authentic artifacts, and memorabilia including Corvettes from the NCM collection.

NCM President and CEO Sharon Brawner says they are eager to showcase the Hot Wheels: Race to Win Exhibition at the National Corvette Museum for Hot Wheels fans of all ages to experience the history of America’s sports car in an educational and interactive space.

“The Corvette’slong-standing representation within Hot Wheels is one that carries across generations,” Brawner says, “and we can’t wait to see the appreciation for both brands at our museum. This Limited Engagement Gallery Exhibition will be a place where everyone feels like a kid.”

  1. I can verify that Corvettes are some of the best track cars out there. I have a tackle box with all my truck stars and the C7 is a beast. I don’t have a C8 yet, but my guess is it’s good.

My personal favorite is the C3 COPO Corvette. Not only a stunner, but fast and agile.
