A mangled Torch Red C8 Corvette hardtop convertible now stands as a vivid reminder of the dangers of suspected impaired driving.
The front half of the Corvette was destroyed beyond recognition after a head on collision with a tour bus Saturday in Monterey County, California.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on 17 Mile Drive west of Majella Road. Investigators say a tour bus with 48 passengers aboard was headed westbound when an eastbound Corvette — reportedly moving at a high rate of speed — crossed the double yellow line and slammed into the bus head on.
The Corvette driver was taken to a local hospital and later placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. One passenger on the bus suffered minor injuries; the remaining passengers were unhurt.
CHP officials used the crash as a stark reminder to never drive under the influence and to always maintain a safe speed, noting that reckless decisions behind the wheel can have life altering consequences for everyone on the road.
