If you’ve been on a waiting list to buy a new mid-engine Corvette and were fretting over the recently announced $1,050 increase in the base MSRP of the 2023 model, here’s a little bit of good news that might soften the blow a little bit.

Previous hikes in the price of the C8 Stingray have pushed the base price to $63,195 for the 2023 model year, up from the original $59,995 for the debut 2020 car.

Those increases aren’t as bad as they could have been, though.

CPI Inflation Calculator

To make the 2023 Corvette the same cost as the 2020 considering inflation, the price would have had to go up to more than $66,000.

Despite the increases each year beginning in 2021, the 2023 model is actually cheaper than the 2020, when you take inflation into account. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ CPI calculator, buying a 2023 model for $63,195 is the equivalent of paying $58,017.76 in 2020.

Maybe that will make some of the customers who will be buying a 2023 Corvette soon feel a little bit better about that higher sticker price.

  1. Boy this is funny math, especially if you are a retired person. Your inflation calculation assumes income increases equally with the rate of inflation. That is not true today. Inflation today is much higher than wage growth. As for the retired with fixed incomes under, the present inflation is a disaster, e.g., inflation at 8% bank savings rates at 2%.

  2. I wait to hear from Mike Furman to say Barry we are ready for your order. I did suggest I would make a great commercial 10/02 I will be 76 . Thought it would be a great idea for GM to say your order has arrived on my special day. Hope GM mgt. likes my idea.

  3. Since hardly anyone buys just the base model this doesn’t do much for the average C8 buyer. With the trim level’s and option’s also going up since the 2020 model the average C8 price has increased a decent amount in the past 4 years. Everything keeps going up except people’s pay checks.

  4. There are positives and negatives in everything, Many of the Covette community are living in the fourth quarter, worked hard for what they have, and we cannot take it with us. Enjoy what you have, live for the moment, and enjoy whatever is left of our lives. Love my C8 and enjoy it every day. No regrets. Whatever brings you pleasure, go for it..how much does it matter in the end?

  5. Until you get to the end you’ll still need lots of money. Unless you want to die on the sidewalk.
Homeless people lived for the moment. Doesn’t work out very good.

  6. I agree with Roderick but you still maintain sustainainability like pay mortgage all bills and food what good does it do to die with millions in bank that you saved your whole life I’m thinking he who owes the most and dies is the winner right you enjoyed the money and didn’t have to pay back
