Chevrolet and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway painted the famous Brickyard in Wild Cherry Camaro SS Convertibles on Monday as the track held one of the starting events for this year’s Indianapolis 500. These 50 identically-dressed Camaro SS Convertibles are this year’s “Festival Event Cars” and they will be used by track officials, dignitaries, and others as we head into May for the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”.

Festival Cars have been used at the world-famous track since the 1960s and Central Indiana residents will surely turn their heads as one of these unique Camaros dressed for the 2022 race passes them by.

The Camaro SS Convertibles are powered by the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 which offers 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, and each is optioned with 20-inch Black aluminum wheels and Brembo front and rear performance brakes. Painted in Wild Cherry Tintcoat, the Camaro’s are wearing special decals from Chevrolet’s Performance Design Studio representing the 106th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. Inside each of the droptop Camaros is a Ceramic White interior, red seatbelts, and a power-folding convertible top.

“We’re glad to continue the tradition of providing Festival Event Cars to build excitement for the Indianapolis 500,” said Dean Stramer, Chevrolet Camaro marketing and advertising manager. “Our Chevrolet Design team did a great job making this year’s Camaro a stand-out.”

Following the race, the Festival Event Cars will be distributed to select Chevrolet dealers where they will be sold. Each of the cars retains all its track documentation for being an official IMS Festival Car and collectors tend to snap up these special vehicles pretty quickly.

Next up on the pre-race schedule, we’re expecting to hear the choice of the Official Pace Car for the 106th Indianapolis 500 and we wouldn’t be surprised at all if Chevrolet goes with the 70th Anniversary Edition Corvette Stingray which, by the way, also has Ceramic White seats that should match up with the Camaro festival cars rather nicely.

2021’s official pace car was a 2021 Corvette Stingray Z51 Convertible driven by former IndyCar racer Danica Patrick.

The 106th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge is scheduled for Sunday, May 29, 2022. Visit IMS.com for tickets and more information on all Month of May events and activities at IMS.
