As we close out another year of blogging about American’s Favorite Sports Car, we like to take a few minutes to reflect on our current state of affairs for Corvette enthusiasts as well as offer up our Top 10 Blog Posts of the year as voted by our readers.

Overall, we tend to believe that things are pretty good for the brand with the current Stingray now enjoying its third model year of production. Nearly 60,000 Stingrays have been produced since the first C8 Corvette rolled off the assembly line in February 2020 and demand shows no sign of tapering off.

The big news of the year was the reveal of the 2023 Corvette Z06 in late October. Armed with a 5.5-liter DOHC flat-plane crank V8 that produces 670-horsepower and the ability to redline at 8600 RPM, the Z06 is truly a world-class exotic sportscar. As GM said in their press release, the world has been put on notice!

Production this year has been a challenge as it was in 2020, but I remain amazed at the abilities of Corvette Assembly Plant Director Kai Spande and his team for meeting them head-on time after time. The supply chain is still causing issues and we saw plant closures in March and May/June due to a lack of available parts. We’ve been fortunate that GM has prioritized the Corvette for receiving the elusive semiconductor chips that have plagued the auto industry, but with the Corvette now carrying an average transaction price of $96K, that’s a no-brainer decision. Again, kudos to GM for that!

Speaking of the assembly plant, we can’t imagine the stress that Kai was under after the tornado hit the plant in early December. It was refreshing to see how GM rushed to the rescue by bringing in the crews, materials, and other resources to get the roof patched and the plant fully operational just 10 days later. You can take all that talk of the Corvette just being a niche model under GM and throw that all out. The Corvette is the technological point of the spear for General Motors and it’s been heartwarming to have that reaffirmed following this severe weather event.

2021 was a mixed bag for Corvette Racing fans who had to watch the Corvette C8.Rs race each other plus a lone Porsche in IMSA’s GTLM class which at the time of this writing is no more. Corvette Racing swept the IMSA championships again for the second year in a row and we watched as the team ended second on the podium at the C8.R’s first 24 Hours of Le Mans. Next year we’ll see the two-car team split up with one staying in IMSA’s new GTD-Pro class while the other takes flight to Europe and the World Endurance Championship. Chevy also announced its long-anticipated GT3 program for the Corvette Z06 with the customer racing program expected in 2024.

As we leave 2021 behind and look forward to 2022, we believe the biggest area of concern for the Corvette Team is the chaotic ordering process that in our opinion leaves customers in the dark for long periods of time and essentially puts their needs last. Chevrolet and General Motors had better do something to reign in dealers and their exorbitant market adjustments and shady business practices, or the ability of the everyday man to own a new Corvette will be a thing of the past.

We also want to thank you, our readers, for the continued success of CorvetteBlogger.com. This little project of mine started over 15 years ago and since then you have grown it into one of the largest single-model automotive websites on the planet with greater than 10M pages viewed over the course of the year. We are always excited about the future and with the Z06 starting production in 2022 and the E-Ray waiting in the wings, there is a lot to look forward to.

Okay, now for our Top 10 Countdown of our most-read blog posts of 2020. These were chosen based on the number of page views received and it’s an eclectic list for sure. As a content producer, you never really know why some posts take off the way they do, but it’s the wide array of interest in the car that makes doing this every day so much fun.

Oh, and because we are all about value here and to give you more than expected, we are sharing the Top 11 as the first three stories are all tornado-related.
