The future of the automotive industry is sure to be much different, with autonomous and electric cars seemingly the wave of the future. But who really knows what the bright young minds of the future will think of in the coming years?

One way the National Corvette Museum and the National Corvette Restorers Society are helping to make that future a little brighter is through a higher education scholarship to a student studying in an automotive or museum-related field.

After accepting applications from across the country beginning in January, the two organizations announced the inaugural winner for this year is Samuel Amurgis of Columbus, Ohio.

He’ll be studying Mechanical Engineering in the fall at Ohio State University.

“His leadership skills, character and work ethic were clearly expressed in his application and short essay,” says Deb Howard, Museum Education Coordinator.

Samuel’s grandparents are Bruce and Deborah Brungard, members of the Museum.

Samuel expressed his thanks to the NCRS and NCM for their support.

“By helping kids who are going into a field of study related to automobiles, they are making a difference for the future of cars!” he said. “I couldn’t be more excited to go to [Ohio State] because of the amazing reputation they have, as well as the many opportunities I will find after graduation. My hope is that once we’re allowed to, I can take a trip to Bowling Green with my Grandpa. He’s the one that started my interest in cars, so I would love to share that moment with you.”

The NCRS representative on the NCM Board, Carlton Colclough, said the NCRS is pleased to support the scholarship through the Museum, adding: “Samuel has a true passion for cars, and he’s the perfect candidate to receive this award. We hope one day he is a Corvette owner and becomes involved with both of our organizations.”
