Mecum Auctions just put a bow on Dana Mecum’s 39th Annual Spring Classic. The event more simply referred to Mecum Indy, saw over 2,600 vehicles cross the red carpet over 9 days at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds. After the final gavel fell, they racked up a record $193 million in sales – shattering their previous record by almost $70 million. The overall sell-through chimed in at 76%.
The Corvette portion of the docket remained equally strong as 149 of the 227 consigned Corvettes found new homes. That translates into a healthy 65% Corvette sell-through rate. 72 Corvettes (or roughly 31% of the Corvette docket) either bid to or sold for $100,000 or more demonstrating Mecum’s ability to bring the best Corvettes to market. Of those 72, 42 (18% of the Corvette docket) were hammered sold at $100,000 or more.
With that, let’s dive into our Top 11 list from Mecum Indy. Don’t forget all our numbers include the buyer’s fees.
A 2026 ZR1X Quail Edition topped the charts with a $605,000 sale. That’s $150,000 more than the Quail Edition that recently sold on Bring a Trailer for $452,000. A Red/Red 1964 fuelie tanker coupe sold for $330,000 continuing the recent high-dollar bids on big tank C2’s. The final podium spot went to a 1965 restomod coupe which found a new home at $264,000. Interestingly, the 3rd-6th highest sellers in Indy were all restomods which is a bit of a departure from the as-born cars we tend to see in Mecum Top 11 lists.
The back half of the Top 11 includes the Silver 1965 coupe from The Exemplars which sold for $209,000. Big block 1967’s were strong as always with a 435hp convertible selling for $203,500 and a 400hp A/C convertible changing hands at $187,000. No Top 11 list is complete without a 1963 split window coupe and Indy delivers with a Silver SWC at $184,250. That C2 tied with a Gold 1969 L89 coupe to round out our 2026 Indy Top 11 list.
Zooming back out we see our usual mix of early Corvettes in the Top 11. In fact, 10 of the 11 cars were built between 1964 and 1969. Typically, we see 1-2 restomods on our lists, but this time we find 4. Adding things up, we find the total cost of the Indy Top 11 to be $2,851,750 which computes out to a little over $259,000 per car.

The list of notable no-sales was led by the C2 bookends which bid to $750,000. A 1963 Z06 tanker failed to meet reserve at $675,000 as did 3 other big tanks with high bids of $675,000, $325,000, and $320,000 respectively. A rare 1957 airbox fuelie was bidded up to $575,000 and a Yellow 2026 ZR1 coupe reached $220,000.
Some of the well sold Corvettes include a 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition at $123,750, a 1965 365hp coupe at $137,500 and 1968 Motion convertible at $112,750. A trio of 2016 C7.R Corvettes sold individually for an average of $103,700 while a pair of 2019 ZR1 coupes sold for $181,500 and $178,750 respectively. A bright blue Forgiato 2014 convertible found a new home at $132,000 while a 565-mile 1978 pace car commanded $73,700.
Our El Cheapo award for the lowest price Corvette goes to yet another C4. This time it’s a nice looking Red 1994 coupe that sold for just $7,150. For some perspective, that Corvette was outsold by a $30k bronze 1957 Corvette sculpture, a $15k fuel injection display, and a $7,800 Corvette gas pump display case.
Other than the 4 restomods, we again see a pretty steady state of our hobby. Good cars still bring good money, big tanks call for big bucks, and the latest and greatest C8 Corvettes bring high demand. We seem to be seeing a tick up in some of the lower production C6 and C7 Corvettes like the C6 Carbon Edition and the C7.R’s noted here. 2019 ZR1’s could be coming back down to earth as well. We’ll keep an eye out for other trends as the auction year rolls on.
