We’ve been covering Corvette’s involvement during the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix held in Washington D.C. this week. We’ve previously identified a number of Corvettes on-site during preparations earlier in the week, as well as those that were giving rides to the media and other fans.

As we watched the pre-race coverage of the race on TV, we got a fantastic surprise from FOX Sports and the United States Military. Called Operation Freedom 250, the video featured each branch of the military doing their part in escorting an Arctic White Corvette Grand Sport Convertible to the nation’s capital for as this was one special delivery – the Official Pace Car for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.

The operation is straight out of a Hollywood production as the Grand Sport is found and identified after being uncovered in a barn. From there it’s flown through the air, driven off a hovercraft, hitched to a helicopter, and driven on and off a transport plane before taking a drive through the woods. Each step along the way is guided by one of the military branches until the operation comes to an end as the Grand Sport safely arrives in D.C.

This was a very fun video and it’s very well done. The imagery of the Corvette together with members of the U.S. Military is both very patriotic and it reinforces the very special relationship of Vettes and Vets. Give it watch below and let us know your thoughts on Operation Freedom 250!

Thanks again to FOX Sports and the Department of War for this pre-race feature. That was some good TV!

  1. Was it kinda neat? Yeah, I guess… but I found it to be way too pandering. The entire pre-race felt like I was hooked up to a MAGA sunshine pump.

No, I am not a fan of DJT and this entire event has been polluted by politics and ego.

As an event, the race has been very well run and quite good. I do like the use of the Capital District and the IndyCar org and DC did a great job putting this race on, considering the short notice.

  2. Great clip, well done! Wish I could have watched the race. Local fox tower is 12 miles away but the signal is too weak for my rabbit ears to pick up. Other channels ok. Fox says pay to stream. Not happening

  3. I think I preferred the IROC race to the IRL one. It played more like a race of legends throughout the years. Very enjoyable to watch.

  4. Waste of tax payers money for Orange man’s ego. Any private funding is rewarded political favors at our expense.

  5. Well done. The clip gave me chills. Our military capabilities are unbelievable. I was surprised to see the Marine Corps landing vehicle included. Nice that Chevy could be a key part of this wonderful 250 celebration event. DC sure was a beautiful background with many camera shots taken from atop the Washington memorial. So many flyovers made by some of our best planes… If I was still living in Virginia, I would have been there. Fans were very excited. Fox race coverage was excellent.

  6. WOW! I’m impressed!
Great package to design and shoot all that video just to get the Corvette from the barn down to the starting line on Pennsylvania Avenue with no accidents or near misses.
As a former U.S. Army active and reserve duty soldier, I was rooting for my guys, but as usual the U.S. Marines had to upstage everybody with that huge Hovercraft coming on to the beach with the Vette. I would like to see an interview with the detail crew for the Pace Corvette as it may have been a little more effort to wash and wax than normal.
Congratulations to all of the production crew, the camera and drone guys, the editors and the only thing missing was that opera that accompanied the Army copters in “Apocalypse Now” when the Corvette was flying thru the air.
And a huge salute to every person, present or past, that has served in the United States Military doing all that’s required, no matter where, what or when.
Corvettes Rule, as they’re being saved by the U.S. Army!

  7. Other than the comments from the TDS impaired, the race and the television coverage was nothing short of great. 🥂Here’s to America’s next 250 years🍻

  8. I’ll guarantee it’s 1 TDS lunatic who is making all these comments with aliases. It says something when a person cannot put their personal idiom aside for 1 summer–and appreciate that the USA is getting a befitting and wholly appropriate celebration of its 250th.

  9. Time people stop making everything political. This race should have happened long ago. It is a perfect setting and featuring the armed forces is a good thing.

I hope it continues for years to come no matter who is president.

The people loved it with 200,000 showing up half with just general admission.

It also helped the area as it brought a lot of money to the area and to the working people not the elected people.

  10. Logic would conclude President Trump offered GM some air time either he offered or GM requested for ditching the Green New Deal that the last administration was pushing outside of market realities.
TDS folks need to read and understand history before commenting. Their comments confirm their ignorance.
The Corvette is an iconic symbol of American ingenuity and freedom. Under the current administration Americans are again experiencing less government intervention which is the ethos of legends like Zora Arkus Duntov and others in Corvettes history were able to capitalize on. The current car would not exist if some GM cowboys out there weren’t able to have the freedom to dream, create, and bend a few rules so the rest of us could reap the benefits.
Let’s be thankful the Corvette is a symbol that represents the spirit and strength of our armed forces (i.e. an unappreciated underdog unworthy of status among European peers and others of the free world who often fail to realize they are still enjoying freedom because of the sacrifice of United States forefathers to save the world from the factual historical realities of liberalism, socialism, and communism where hundreds of millions have died and suffered).
