To call the all new C8 Corvette ZR1 “slow” is sort of ridiculous because we know that it’s anything but with its twin turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine capable of generating 1,064-hp. Before its release, Chevrolet also showcased a top speed of 233 MPH and a quarter mile time of 9.6 seconds at 150 mph.
A Youtuber known as Wheeler was one of the first to take ownership of the 2025 Corvette ZR1. He picked up VIN 020 last summer and he was the first to actually take the car to the drag strip while also running track dates at Sebring and Daytona. While it looked like he was doing everything right, he just wasn’t getting great times in the quarter mile from his car, which has led to some calling his Arctic White C8 “The World’s Slowest ZR1” despite his personal best being 9.79 seconds.
Wheeler spoke to GM engineers about it and they believed it was his unfamiliarity with drag racing and also the poor track conditions holding back the ZR1. After all, these cars don’t do well in drag racing under a hot July sun with temps in the mid-90s and 80% plus humidity. During that July 2025 track date at Orlando’s Speed World, Wheeler’s car showed signs of heat soak after multiple runs against competitors that included the Lamborghini Revuelto, a heavily modified McLaren 750S, and a Tesla Model S Plaid.
Meanwhile, Brooks from DragTimes gets his ZR1 several months later and during a track date at Bradenton Motorsports Park in December, he set the Stock ZR1 world record with a time of 9.270 seconds at 153.30 mph.
Now, Wheeler and his Arctic White ZR1 are back at the dragstrip and looking for redemption in his quarter mile times. This time, the conditions were looking much more favorable with a DA of 200 and temps around 70-degrees Fahrenheit.
Like Brooks did in his record time, Wheeler has removed the rear wing from the car to reduce drag. His first run was a solo pass and he got a 9.38 on his Dragy: “Slowest ZR1 no longer,” says Wheeler. The timing station at the drag strip recorded it as 9.42 seconds at 154.53 MPH. Brooks looks at the time and states, “Holy sh*t, you’re car’s not broken.”
His second pass at Bradenton confirmed the car’s consistency after recording a 9.41-second quarter mile. His 60-130 mph in that run was 4.49 seconds and 0-60 mph was 2.46 seconds. As Wheeler states, his ZR1 is no longer the slowest in the world now that he has run faster than Chevrolet’s advertised times.

I heard that Christian also had the ECU re-flashed at the dealership. Is it possible that there was some anomaly in the program or perhaps learned driving behavior?
Do not believe Brooks about anything.
Catless makes it a modified ZR1. Let’s have full disclosure in the title in the future.
