Do we have a battle starting to shape up for the title of the World’s Fastest C8 Corvette ZR1? It appears so!
Let’s see if I can set the table for you. Officially, GM says the Corvette ZR1 with the ZTK Performance Package can run the quarter mile in 9.6 seconds at 150 mph while a standard ZR1 can do it 9.7 seconds at 152 MPH. The key to a really great time appears to having the best rubber on the rears while streamlining the aero with the removal of the high wing.
One of the first to have a ZR1 was a gent named Steven (@superchargederay at YouTube) and it got a bit of work done to it at Paragon Performance after its delivery at the NCM. Jesse Iwuji posted a short with the car in October showing the Hysteria Purple ZR1 running 9.33 seconds at 152 MPH to set the pace. It did have drag radials and the rear wing was removed during this run.
Then Brooks from DragTimes got a ZR1 Coupe in early December and once it was properly broken in, he took it to Bradenton Motorsports Park for some fun. With the removal of the four bolts and pulling the high wing, he was able to run his pure stock Corvette ZR1 to a time of 9.270 seconds at 153.30 MPH to claim the record.
Meanwhile, Wheeler and his 2025 Arctic White Corvette ZR1 is standing on the sidelines wondering how it came to be that he owns the world’s slowest Corvette ZR1. At least he is taking it in stride even though the dude ran 9.7 seconds with the car!
But now Steven is back at the track and ready to take back the record. Documenting all this is David from DBM Racing who is at the Carolina Dragway with the Purple ZR1. Showing off the car, we see it now has an Eventuri intake along with an aftermarket exhaust and will be wearing drag radials as well when it makes its run.
Dave acknowledges the record time from Brooks with the stock Corvette ZR1, but says they are here to go even faster. Dave claims this car has the faster trap time while Brooks set the ET record and they are attempting to take them both back during this track event.
The car is equipped with a Dragy so we have both it and the dragway’s timing system providing the data. On the first of several runs, Steven right off the bat nailed down a time 9.17 seconds at 152.89 MPH on the Dragy while the time slip showed an amazing 9.136 at 152.30 MPH.
That’s the new world record time for the ZR1 and with the 8’s being so close, perhaps we’ll see some additional weight removed from the car to improve those times. As David says, the ZR1s are currently untunable as the LT7 ECUs are still locked. All you can really do is address the air flow in and out of the car, as well as the tires at this point!
In another run captured, Steven switched the rear tires back to the Michelin PS4s and ran a time of 9.271 seconds at 151.37 MPH.

My 02 Z06 with vengeance motor, XL650 trans, mickeys did 8.9 155. Meth boost rated at 902 HP
I am old enough to remember when NHRA Pro stock cars were running 9s.
Does any of this really matter. I remember running my GTO at raceway park and turning in a 13.2 at 100 MPH thinking I have a fast car. All the while thinking about how to break into the mystical 12″s. My C8 Z06 is fast enough doing mid 10’s. Mid10’S? holy crap. In my youth cars that were in the 11’s were race cars not street cars. Now as I wait for my ZR1X it doesn’t matter anymore how fast it is because it is insane that a streetcar can run in the low 9’s or even maybe the high 8’s. Just having a car like that is good enough for me, I’m too old to care if I’m a tenth of a second faster or not. Just having that kind of power available is good enough for me.
Well, actually it does matter to those of us with a little scientific curiosity. Some care as much about understanding how a win was achieved as they do about a win. The knowledge might be applicable to what they drive.
The turbocharged C8 ZR1 reminds me of the 1980s that created an explosion of aftermarket mods and parts for turboBuick Regal Grand Nationals. Custom exhausts, air boxes, intercoolers, tricked-up wastegates, fuel pressure regulators, big fuel pumps, larger injectors, bigger turbos, camshafts, head porting, exotic fuels… The locked ECMs and huge (!) expense are tremendous barriers today. But some guys spend a LOT of money at professional “tuner” shops with more money in their mods than the car itself cost in the first place. I’ll be an interested spectator and might just learn something new…
