Corvettes for Sale: Two-Owner 1972 Corvette LT1 Convertible Offered on eBay

By 1972, performance was fading fast in Detroit, but Chevrolet’s LT 1 small block still offered a last, defiant spark. This Mille Miglia Red Corvette Convertible is one of just 1,741 LT-1s built in the engine’s final year—and only 405 were convertibles—making it one of the rarest small block C3s of the era.

This example being offered on eBay by a dealer in Downers Grove, Illinois is a true survivor. It’s a two-owner car, with the current owner having purchased it on July 18, 1973, when it had only 12,000 miles. More than five decades later, the odometer shows 39,311 original miles, and the car has never seen snow or rain. The paint is original and shows honest age, the chrome bumpers still shine, and the only replaced exterior piece is the black soft top.

Under the hood sits the LT-1: a high revving 350 V8 rated at 255 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque in 1972. Though the published numbers dropped due to the industry’s switch to net horsepower ratings, the LT 1 remained one of Chevrolet’s sharpest small blocks—solid lifters, big Holley carb, and a personality built for drivers who preferred winding out gears over cruising in comfort. A four speed manual completes the purist’s setup.

Inside, the red vinyl cabin is original and unrestored. Wear on the interior paint, a small tear in the driver’s seat, and some carpet staining reflect its age but not neglect. Everything functions, and the seller says the car starts easily and shifts cleanly through all gears.

With an asking price of $49,988, this Corvette sits at the intersection of rarity, originality, and final year LT 1 heritage. The market has cooled after recent spikes, but cars like this are bought for the sound of a solid lifter small block at full song and the feeling of a four speed Corvette on an open road. For collectors who understand what the LT 1 represents, that experience is the real value.

  1. I’ve got plenty of great cars, and cool Corvettes.
But at the price, this LT-1 needs to be owned.
