Back in 1997, I got so excited about seeing a truckload of new C5s near my hometown that I followed the driver into the parking lot of a hotel to sneak a peek and nearly got our family sedan smashed by his truck in the process.

More than 25 years later, it’s still exciting to see a load of new C8s on the interstate, all wrapped up in white covers and headed to new homes around the country.

This week, a man just released from prison was likewise thrilled to see a tractor-trailer hauling new mid-engine Corvettes, though for different reasons than enthusiasts like us. Turns out he just needed a ride home.

According to a Facebook post by Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in Tucson, Arizona, Isaiah Walker, 23, of Oklahoma allegedly first approached the truck driver, speaking to him about his cargo and lulling him into a sense of security before grabbing and throwing him from the cab.

Walker then drove off in the truck carrying 10 new Corvettes worth more than $1.25 million, authorities said.

A deputy later spotted the truck and attempted to get Walker to pull over, but the suspect just began driving recklessly forcing other vehicles off the roadway, according to the sheriff’s office. Eventually, Walker stopped the truck and was arrested by a deputy and a police officer from Willcox.

He’s been charged with robbery, 11 counts of theft of means of transportation, and felony theft. Guess he won’t need a ride home now for awhile, huh?

Authorities say Walker admitted to stealing the truck and told them the Corvettes were not the reason and that he just needed the truck to get home after being released from prison.

“The deputy and officer showed great restraint and patience in bringing a serious crime to a peaceful resolution, all while keeping the property of others from being damaged,” Willcox Police Chief Dale Hadfield said. “The stolen vehicle was safely recovered without damage and was released to the driver so he could continue his delivery.”

If you happen to be one of the new owners waiting for your Corvette that took a roundabout way of getting to you, let us know your thoughts.

  1. Well, all he had to do was to steal one of the C8s. drive it home. sell it. and he would have been home, able to drive around, and maybe buy dinner for his Sweetie.

  2. Saw this news and expecting to get my 2024 Stingray (10) this month and was hoping for a good result. Cacti 🌵 Green.

  3. key word, ‘home’. he got what he wanted and needed, a ride back, ‘home’, where he feels safe. his only problem will be , his ex-wife has already found a new ‘huusben’…..:-) ain’t life grand…..

  4. “Isaiah Walker”…

Let me guess- he was on his way home to become a future physicist, right?

  5. Another winner who is doing the classic “life in prison on installment plan”. Out then back in, then out and repeat until he finally kills someone.

Big Stu…his “sweetie” is back in prison. Maybe he subconsciously is wanting to go back. Of course prison is where you don’t have to work and you have a guaranteed three meals a bed.
