One of the most exciting features of the C4 Corvette has to be its gigantic clamshell hood that opens to reveal the engine and suspension up-close and personal.
Unfortunately, this white late-C4 coupe no longer has its hood after a bizarre crash Thursday on I-45 in Texas.
Dash cam video suddenly captures the Corvette slamming into the rear end of a work van, not even bothering to hit his brakes before the impact sends the hood flying off into the highway beside the car.

The Corvette then keeps going past the van, which is seen eventually pulling over into the emergency lane. In the background, the Corvette driver makes his get-away by running across an adjacent road, leaving his badly damaged sports car behind.
No word on why he left the scene. Perhaps he was driving impaired or maybe he had stolen the car or could he have been distraught about leaving his clamshell hood behind in the highway?
The van seems to have escaped without much damage, despite a pretty solid impact to the rear end.
In the Reddit.com comments section, the original poster said, “After the Vette was on the tow truck, we all pulled into a gas station to exchange info and give statements. A second tow driver showed up, plopped the hood on the ground in front of the first driver, and just said, “you forgot the hood” and for some reason it was comical to me.”
Comical indeed!

Maybe stolen? Uh, yeah! Who runs away from their own car thinking they can get away? No worries, he will do a few months and will never pay a dime out of pocket. If California, he would not even do the jail time.
Oh come on. Same old story in Texas. Illegal had an accident after stealing the vehicle. It is becoming scary to drive on public roads anymore with all the uninsured drivers.
It’s Houston…what do you expect? I live here…it’s cess pool. Ever since hurricane Katrina displaced the worst of the worst from New Orleans to Houston, the city has never been the same. Crime doubled after the hurricane…and it took the local news four years to final admit it.
