It’s been a question on our minds as to how the Corvette Assembly Plant was going to do the model year changeover this week with the UAW negotiations ongoing, but now we may have some clarity.

Originally, the 2024 models were planned to start on Monday, September 11th. As that date came and went with the 2023 models still coming off the assembly line, the consensus was that the team would continue building 2023s through at least Thursday evening when the UAW contract expired.

Today, we reached out to our media contact at the Corvette Assembly Plant about the model year changeover and we were told the team will finish with the 2023s on Friday and then the 2024 models are planned to start next week.

Of course, with these extra production days, we are wondering exactly where the total for the 2023 models will come in at. Harlan Charles confirmed the total of 53,448 at the NCM Anniversary Show two weeks ago, but it sounded like the exact total was still waiting to be confirmed.

The record for Corvette production is the 1979 model year which saw the St.Louis assembly plant build 53,807 units for the year. The 2023 Corvette represents as the most ever built in Bowling Green, and just a few hundred units behind that record setting year.

The 2023s will go down in Corvette history as one of the most successful years for the car, with the highlights being both the introduction of the new Z06 and its model year that celebrated the 70th Anniversary of America’s Favorite Sports Car.

With the plant currently open for business, it also means than any Corvettes that have been completed will ship to their destinations, and NCM R8C deliveries will continue to occur as well.

  1. Frank you obviously have not looked into the details of the strike. Only one location at GM, Ford and Stellantis is currently on the picket line. While each location may impact other locations at some point in the future, most manufacturing is currently operating as normal. Please stop spreading misinformation.

  2. It’s our understanding that Jack Cooper Transport, which is a Teamster Union shop, will not be crossing the UAW picket lines at any of the Big Three automakers it ships vehicles for.

  3. As long as the parts supply holds they’ll probably work unless the targeted strikes aren’t successful in disrupting that, or the union calls for a complete strike of all facilities. And I believe Jack Cooper trucking won’t cross the picket lines, but there is none right now at BG. So……..?
