We’ve been charting the production numbers of the 2023 model year for the last few months and we got an update on them from Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles during last weekend’s 29th Anniversary Celebration at the National Corvette Museum.

During the Team Corvette seminar, Harlan shared this graphic showing that as of June, there were 53,448 total Corvettes made during the model year. That would be for both completed cars as well as those sequenced for production. Harlan says, “it’s not the total final, but close to it,” and he states that it will be the highest year of production of the Corvette ever at Bowling Green Assembly.

The record year for Corvette comes in 1979 when the cars were being assembled in St. Louis and that record stands at 53,807. The second highest year came during the extended 1984 model year with 51,547 Corvettes produced at the new Bowling Green Assembly Plant. The 2023 model year production totals will also go down as one of only three in Corvette’s 70-year history to surpass 50,000 units.

Harlan’s chart also shows the current breakdown between the Stingray and Z06 with 89% being the Stingray vs 11% for the Z06. Another interesting factor is that the Z06 Convertible leads the Coupe by 51% to 49%. That’s a feat that hasn’t been done since 1968 which is the last year that Convertibles outsold the Coupe.

70th Anniversary Stats

We also got the current breakdown on the 70th Anniversary Package with 5,601 examples produced (so far?). That total breaks down into 65% being the White Pearl Metallic while 35% were Carbon Flash Metallic. The convertible versions also outsold the coupes in both the Stingray and Z06. A total of 79% of 70th Anniversary Stingrays were equipped with the Z51 package while 34% of the Z06s were equipped with the Z07 Performance Package.

Another feather in the cap of Chevrolet is that the C8 Corvette appears to have changed the demographics of owners which were trending older in the previous generation. A chart on the Calendar Year Deliveries in the luxury sport segment shows the mean age for the Corvette owners is now at 54 and the percentage of those under 35 years old now stands at 11% which is number 1 for the luxury sport segment.

The presentation also covers Corvette Racing’s FIA WEC title and win at Le Mans, while also sharing some of the new equipment and options for the 2024 model year. Following the prepared remarks, the floor was opened for questions.

  1. Awesome news. With the new mean ownership age now at 54, any information on what it was before the C8 came online? I can only assume it was higher, since the 8th Gen has truly moved the needle for the segment!

  2. Boba totally agree, once the new mid engine design was developed it became mandatory for the Corvettes design and body OUTLINE to be altered to accommadate the change. Sooo the “kids” came out in support of the new body outline as apposed to the traditional “front engine round taillight” esthetic, THANK GOD we are finally moving on.
