Stored under an open shed out in the woods, these two early Corvettes had been all but forgotten by the world for more than 40 years.

That is, until the folks at YouTube’s “Colture” found them and brought back into the limelight. Check out the recovery process on this video, if you can overcome the sometimes dizzying camera work.

A little lightheadedness, however, is a small price to pay to get to watch the return of a 1958 and a 1966 Corvette that had been sharing a bunk in the same shed for decades.

That neglect over the years obviously paid a price on the two collectibles, with thick layers of dust and foliage covering their bodies, eating away at their paint. Parts are also missing, things like the chrome bumpers that may have been foraged for other cars being restored.

The hosts don’t reveal their plans for the two cars, and it will be interesting to see if they’re still able to be saved. We’re particularly worried about the frames and bird cages after spending so much time in the elements.

Still, it’s definitely worth a shot to try to save these vintage Corvettes. Back in the day, the ’58 was the most popular Corvette in history, with a record 9,168 produced at the St. Louis factory, up considerably over the 6,339 built the year before. The ’58, of course, marked the introduction of dual headlights, and nonfunctional louvers graced the hood and twin chrome spears adorned the trunk.

We aren’t offered a look under the hood, but the car perhaps will still have its original engine – one of four versions of a 283 V8 that could have produced anywhere from 245 to 290 horsepower.

By 1966, the Corvette had really come into its own, with production hitting a record 27,720, including this rare Laguna Blue convertible, one of just 2,054 Sting Rays so painted. It’s even more unusual because of what appears to be an L36 390-horsepower 427 V8 under the hood.

A quick pressure wash revealed the paint on the ’66 for the first time in a while, but both these cars will require much more work. We think they’re definitely worth the effort as two survivors out of about 37,000 ever built during these two model years.

There is a part 1 video to this which shows the 1958 and 1966 Corvettes as they were found inside the shed, while a 1962 Corvette racer was pulled from the field out back and put on a trailer.

  1. 2 great Corvettes that could only be used to turn into vintage drag racers. They have both been used up.
