Some more growing pains for the 2023 Corvette Z06 came into focus this week after a member of the Corvette Forum detailed a service visit to his local Chevrolet dealer regarding oil leaking from the front his engine. A technical service bulletin issued back at the end of April seems to cover what his problem was, and the good news is that it looks like changing out the gasket seals will fix the problem.

CF member vette615 said in his post that his “Corvette is sitting on the engine stand at the dealer about to have 31 gaskets replaced.” He adds “The best part is GM had already known about the problem (as they had already put out a bulletin to the dealers), and didn’t say word to the owners, hoping they would not have to fix too many engines.”

The TSB states the following:

This condition may be caused by improper front cover bolt torque or inadequate sealer adhesion at one of the six T-joint locations. To correct this condition, it will be necessary to install new front cover gaskets and follow the revised RTV sealing procedure,” which states “Ensure all front cover bolts are torqued in proper sequence and to specification.”

Vette615 says that GM technicians came to look at the engine and then told the dealer to “replace all 31 gaskets as the assembly plant did not have the proper silicone added to the gaskets, which caused leaking at the corners.”

He also adds that he has 610 miles on the engine/car.

Another member named RapidC84B suggests a silver lining to the problem, saying “the TSB references a revised sealing process, so guess that was a running correction.”

  1. The engine looks complex compared to my LT4…. Hope the Z06 doesn’t become a stinky Bimmer…. if you know what I mean….

  2. That would just make me sick if my new car had to have the dealer R&R the motor. We saw what is involved to remove the motor a while back on the car that needed a new motor before it had hardly any miles on it. The whole back end of the car had to be removed. Anyone that buys the first year anything is foolish.
