With the arrival of the 2023 Corvette Z06, Chevrolet told us “the street would never sound the same” thanks to the high-revving sound from the new 5.5L flat-plane crank LT6 engine. Unfortunately, there is another sound that is causing consternation among new Z06s owners and Chevy says they are now investigating.

The sound that some owners have complained about is described as a ticking noise coming from upper portion of the engine. Currently this issue is related to the sound it makes, as there are no Check Engine Lights or other drivability issues with a Z06 exhibiting the sound.

General Motors has issued a Preliminary Information Bulletin for the condition and the bulletin says:

“At this time the concern is under engineering investigation, once a repair has been established, this PI (preliminary information) will be updated or changed to a bulletin.”

“No durability issues have been identified with this concern and customer can drive the vehicle until a repair is available.”

Several owners have chimed in saying their LT6 is making the sound. The first example comes from an owner on the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com, and the second example was uploaded to Facebook’s Corvette Z06 Owners Group:

GM’s original bulletin featured a sound file attached to the preliminary information memo, but we only have access to a screenshot that was posted to the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com. We’ll be watching to see if this becomes a bigger issue or if its just how the LT6 in the Z06 functions.

  1. Sounds like a Diesel , I’m glad these Cars are not Readily Available , I might have Bought one , 1st Year Cars are Trouble

  2. If you are lucky enough to get a new Z06, my advice is to purchase the longest warranty possible. But it is one hell of a car. I look forward to owning on some day.

  3. That sound definitely sounds like trouble. There have been issues in the past with the LT1 regarding supplier parts (valve springs I believe) that didn’t affect all engines and wasn’t an engineering defect. This could be more of the same. This engine has been run long and hard in the C8.R so the engineering may not be the fault but perhaps faulty parts. Let’s hope it’s something simple

  4. Thank you for this site. I just purchased a brand new 3LT and now have almost 400 miles on it. Within the first 100 miles I noticed this ticking sound and now it has become quite distracting. I am planning to take it to the dealer for another warranty issue, but will see if they have any updates on this issue as well.
