Retrofits for the Corvette's Rear Park Assist Modules Have Begun

As General Motors was fighting through the shortage of automotive semiconductor chips back in 2021 and early 2022, the C8 Corvette Stingray was mostly protected, and the car got the chips it needed to keep production on track. However, one feature of the Corvette Stingray was impacted by the chip shortage, and for several months, cars were produced without it.

That feature was the Rear Park Assist, which provides an audible warning when you are backing up your Corvette in reverse. Dealers were notified on February 3, 2022, that Corvettes would be produced without the Rear Park Assist module, which is located in the rear of the car. At the time, customers were provided a $50 credit and the promise to have it retrofitted once available.

The constraint over the Rear Park Assist ended the week of April 11th, with Corvettes receiving the controller modules once again. But those customers whose cars were built without it have patiently been waiting for the call to bring them into the service department for the retrofit.

A new service bulletin has been issued and it looks like the retrofit program has already gotten underway. A member of the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com named Foosh has already received an email from his dealer, Criswell Chevrolet, stating that the module has been ordered. He writes:

I received an email from Criswell saying that they had ordered the RPA module, and it would be there for my first service in a few weeks. They have to be ordered by VIN, which must match GM records for C8s that had RPA deleted at time of production.

The service bulletin says the retrofit includes two components, the Rear Park Assist control module, and the serial data gateway module. When you take your affected 2022 or 2023 Corvette Stingray to your dealer, the service technician will replace the Rear Park Assist control module, program it, and then set up the serial data gateway module which restores the Rear Park Assist feature to its original functionality.

The retrofit program will be in place through March 31, 2026. While users are suggesting that effected owners would receive an email from GM, you can call the Chevrolet Customer Service Number at 1-800-222-1020 and reference GM Customer Satisfaction Program Number: N222375790.

  1. Waiting to be notified. Anyone know how the notifications take place? Is it by VIN – oldest first? Also, how long would this take to install?
