Dallas Cowboys rookie Sam Williams apparently isn’t through with the law after crashing his black C8 Corvette last month.

TMZ is reporting that the Plano (Texas) Police Department has issued a misdemeanor arrest warrant for reckless driving related to the Dec. 22 crash that left his black Stingray in shambles, hauled off on the back of a rollback.

Police told TMZ that “at this time, there is no plan to find and arrest” Williams, who “has been contacted to turn himself in.”

No word on what the warrant will mean for the 23-year-old defensive standout’s ability to play in the Cowboys’ playoff game against Tampa Bay tonight.

After the crash, Williams and the other driver were carried to a hospital as a precaution, and a few hours later, the second-round draft pick tweeted out some good news about their condition: “I’m okay everyone so is the other person that was involved,” with prayer and heart emojis added.

Police say Williams was driving his Corvette southbound on Preston Road in Plano around 2:15 p.m. when he collided with a black Infiniti going northbound and attempting to turn onto Towne Square Drive, near SH 121.

The crash knocked the driver’s side front tire off of the Corvette, which also lost its front and rear fenders, along with other major damage. Video from the scene shows the C8 being hauled off on a rollback, while the less-damaged Infiniti is being pulled behind it.

At the time, police said they were continuing to investigate the accident, including whether speed played a role, but they do not believe alcohol or drugs were to blame.

After a standout career at Ole Miss, Williams was the 56th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He has recorded four sacks and three fumble recoveries so far this season as a member of the Cowboys’ defensive line rotation but was held out of the team’s 40-34 win over Philadelphia on Dec. 24 as a precautionary measure after the accident.

In a Dec. 26 interview with the Dallas Star-Telegram, Williams talked about how fortunate he feels just to be alive after the crash.

“Yeah, my first thing was like, ‘thank you God’ because it could have been worse,” Williams told the newspaper. “I was thinking about my son and his mom. I could have been gone like that fast without seeing them and saying goodbye or anything. And I was going home to them. I think I was like five to six minutes from my house. I look back over at the accident and I am just thankful for life. Christmas was right around and like the biggest gift we have is life every day because you never know.”

  1. I’m a bit confused, Williams is going South, the other vehicle is going North and turning Left, across Oncoming Traffic (and Williams). Why would the police want to arrest him, sounds like he was more a victim than at fault. His Vette is T-Boned on the Left side, totaled, why is he being charged? Guess it’s harder to understand when reading about it, instead of being there, at least for me it is.
