Corvettes for Sale – 2009 Callaway GT4 Competition on Bring a Trailer

Bring A Trailer never has a shortage of fantastic Corvette offerings and, boy, do we have cool one for you today! This 2009 coupe is 1 of 5 Corvettes built by Chevrolet expressly for track use by Callaway Competition. Once delivered, it was promptly sent to Germany, prepped for racing, and went on to win three championships. Now it can be yours if you’re the high bidder at the end of this Bring a Trailer auction.

The car was originally finished in white and wears EX VIN #016. Over the years it wore various racing liveries before being finished in its current Gulf Oil colors. Callaway Competition performed the transformation into a GT4 racer. Once completed it ran throughout Europe and the Middle East between 2010 and 2014, claiming 3 championships in that timeframe. It was subsequently imported back to the US by the seller in 2017.

Under the hood you’ll see a 6.2-liter LS3 initially assembled by Callaway and overhauled by APP Racing Engines. Racing modifications include a dry-sump oil system, Kooks headers, a custom fabricated exhaust system, auxiliary cooling systems, and a carbon-fiber air intake.

DAV-V-TEC Engineering in Holland installed a Holinger six-speed sequential gearbox which routes power back to the rear wheels. The remainder of the driveline includes ZR1-spec items such as a limited-slip differential and a ZR1 torque tube. It also features fluid coolers for the differential and transaxle.

Inside the car we find a race-prepped cabin with an eight-point roll cage and a Konig racing bucket seat with head restraints and a racing harness. Additionally, you’ll note lightweight carbon-fiber door panels, a driver cooling system, and the mandatory fire suppression system. The detachable Sabelt steering wheel frames a digital gauge cluster.

All that racing componentry is wrapped in C6 bodywork originally finished in white in Bowling Green. The transformation to GT4 racer added an external fuel shut-off, front dive planes, an aggressive front splitter, brake cooling ducts, polycarbonate windows, twin exhaust outlets, an F1 brake light, a rear wing, and a port for the air jack system.

Michelin Pilot Sport GT slick tires measuring 30/68 up front and 31/71 out back wrap gray 18″ magnesium alloy wheels on all 4 corners. Those sticky tires are mounted to a double wishbone suspension sporting Moton two-way adjustable dampers, Eibach springs, and a four-point air jack system. AP Racing six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes team up with slotted rotors to provide the stopping power.

Like any racer, this one has its collection of battle scars. The seller notes scuffs on the wheels as well cracks on a door sill and side skirt. The listing also mentions a misaligned right fender and that the rear fascia was repaired. It goes on to state that the engine and clutch have approximately 30 hours of use, the driveline has 10 hours on it, and the gearbox has 40 hours.

Documentation is paramount when selling old race cars like this, and the seller has plenty of detail for this one. For starters, there’s footage of the car competing in race events included in the gallery. Additionally, there’s “a seller-provided historical narrative of the production of the five experimental GT4 cars” provided as well. Development of this car included support from former Chief Engineer Tom Wallace and Hall of Famer, John Heinricy.

So, if you’ve wanting to add a Corvette racer to your collection, here’s the perfect opportunity to do so. The Callaway pedigree mixed with great history and a host of documentation should make this an exciting BaT auction to watch. As we assemble this post, bidding is at $55,000 and we’re sure it’s got a long wat to go yet. For more information on this cool racer and to see more photos head on over to Bring a Trailer.
