Our friends at Hendrick Driven for Veterans, a 501(c)(3) non‑profit organization, are once again opening registration for their annual Talladega Superspeedway Track Day fundraiser. If you’ve ever wanted to drive your Corvette or other vehicle on the high banks of a real NASCAR superspeedway, this is your chance — and your participation directly supports veterans who have served our country.
This unique Memorial Day weekend tradition continues in 2026 with Hendrick Driven for Veterans (formerly known as Vettes4Vets) hosting their annual festivities at Talladega Superspeedway. Things kick off with a free Show and Shine car show on Friday, May 22nd, from 3 PM to 7 PM, right at the track. The Talladega venue offers plenty of room for Corvettes and other collector cars from across Alabama and the Southeast. Food will be available for purchase from the Talladega Track Caterer, so bring your friends and enjoy an afternoon surrounded by great cars and great people.
The real excitement begins on Saturday, May 23rd, when participants take to the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway. You can purchase five (5) laps for $135 per session, and you’ll be all set to experience the 2.7‑mile tri‑oval with its famous 33‑degree banking. The sessions are run at what are considered “safe speeds,” but with Talladega’s massive layout, the cars naturally spread out and you can expect speeds that are certainly more spirited than your average highway cruise — all within the controlled environment of the track. The first session rolls off at 8:00 AM, with each subsequent group staged and ready to go as the previous one finishes.
Multiple sessions can be purchased, and additional spots will be available during the event. This driving experience is open to all vehicles, not just Corvettes, so feel free to “run what ya brung!” Your generosity helps Hendrick Driven for Veterans continue their mission of supporting Alabama’s veterans.
The event is led by Gary Nelson, of Hendrick Driven for Veterans and the Corvette department at Hendrick Chevrolet Hoover in Birmingham. Gary served as a Cobra gunship pilot in Vietnam and later flew 747s for UPS before beginning his second career at the Hendrick dealership in 2016. Hendrick Driven for Vettes works closely with other veteran‑support organizations to identify individuals in need, and they provide grants to vetted veterans, active‑duty personnel, and their families. Since its inception, Vettes4Vets/Hendrick Driven for Vettes has raised over $400,000 to help veterans, and all donations are tax‑deductible.
When you purchase a 5‑lap session, 100% of your donation goes directly to the charity. Hendrick Chevrolet Hoover covers the more than $11,000 track rental fee, and volunteers — including the dedicated folks from Team Corvette Alabama — help ensure the event runs safely and smoothly. Every lap and every donation makes a difference.
