A survivor grade 1971 Corvette Stingray with more than four decades of single owner history has popped up on eBay, and it’s already sparking strong opinions among enthusiasts.
According to the seller, this Yellow C3 Corvette has remained with the same owner for more than 45 years and shows just 29,426 original miles. It’s equipped with the desirable LS5 454/365 horsepower big block and a 4-speed manual, the kind of pairing that still lights up Corvette forums half a century later.
And the comments came quickly on Barn Finds, where we spotted this beauty.
“Basically asking 58 large for it,” one reader said. “Beautiful car… but that seems pricey to me.”
The seller emphasizes originality above all else. The car reportedly retains its original paint, original interior, and numbers matching drivetrain. The documentation pile is equally impressive: tank sticker, Protect O Plate, owner’s manual, dealer folder, showroom brochure, and even spare tire instructions.
There’s also a stash of Watkins Glen race patches and metal plates from 1971–74, plus a Byrne Brothers Chevrolet decal and keychain from the New York dealership where it was sold new.
One commenter summed up the appeal:
“An American icon… pre emissions big block that’s clean and even has the original air cleaner decal. Nice!”
The Stingray comes with many of the features collectors expect on a big block C3:
• Power steering and power brakes
• Power windows
• Leather seats
• Tilt/telescopic steering column
• Shoulder belts
• Rear window defogger
• Factory luggage rack
• But no A/C!
Recent maintenance includes a new exhaust, new Dewitt radiator (with the original included), new gas tank and sending unit, a rebuilt original water pump, and rebuilt original brake components. It also wears four new belted wide oval tires.
While the car’s condition and documentation impressed many, the asking price ignited the liveliest discussion.
“If the mileage is real, this is a rare bird,” one reader wrote. “But at this price, you’re in C7 territory — with A/C.”
Another chimed in:
“Nope, no A/C. That’s a deal killer. Well, that and the $58 large.”
And then came the classic zinger:
“Where do sellers come up with asking prices that bear no resemblance to market value? Maybe it was owned by Jon Voight’s dentist.”
Whether the price is ambitious or justified is up to the bidders. What’s clear is that this Corvette’s appeal goes beyond horsepower. It’s the paper trail, the survivor status, and the 45 year ownership story that make it stand out in a crowded field of restored C3s.
Plenty of 1971 Corvettes are still out there. Far fewer come with this kind of history — and this kind of conversation swirling around them

Nice car and well equipped, but with an Alice in Wonderland price.
Despite its asking price it is one sweet looking big block C3 with its eye catching yellow paint and big block hood with 454 emblems.

Fine if you have the cash to burn. For me, I am the second owner of a 2009 Corvette coupe, 36k miles with AIR CONDITIONING! NO AC in Florida is not just a deal breaker but climatic suicide. Thanks, but no thanks. What good is a show car or any car for that matter if you sweat your ba**s when you drive it?
No A/C?….dont know where these folks call it a deal breaker,but the majority of those old cars didnt have a/c. As far as 58k,its a TAD bit under priced for its rarity. Anyone who has driven a C3 big block vette knows how warm it is.Let alone the miserable noise inside the cab if its got side pipes.
Nice car but the LS5 is not that desirable. Unfortunately, the C3 vette sweet spot is 68 though 70. L88, LS6, and super rare aluminum 427 command a bigger price. The entire American 72 and older market is struggling. C3 Vetts are becoming an enigma. At 52 and a collect myself, I already have a C3 as most collectors. AT 58 Grand there is no room to make money on a resale.
