Chevrolet Teases the 2024 Corvette E-Ray

Chevrolet dropped a new bombshell on Tuesday featuring the 2024 Corvette E-Ray and they will be introducing the newest C8 Corvette model on January 17th, 2023. If that date sounds familiar, it’s because 70 years ago on January 17, 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette made its public debut at the GM Motorama show held at the famous Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City.

In the teaser video, we hear the traditional start-up bark from the 495-hp LT2 V8, which is expected in the widebody model, and GM also gives us a great look at the new ‘Starfish’ design five-spoke wheels while also showing off the carbon ceramic brake rotors. So right away, we know we are getting some great performance options for the car.

A couple of quick jump cuts and then we see the V8 under the rear engine hatch and it looks to our eyes that the E-Ray’s LT2 will have its own engine cover design. I bumped up the levels in photoshop to reveal what that new cover might look like.

The Blue Corvette is shown once again on snowy roads as the engine noise and music build into a crescendo and then all is quiet. The driver is shown using the Drive Mode Selector to select the desired start-up with the choices being “Stealth” and “Normal.” The snow is now gone and we are in a downtown environment with the exhaust note replaced by the whirling sounds of an EV/hybrid. On-screen, Chevrolet says “ONE LIKE NONE.”

With the reveal of the E-Ray’s Stealth Mode, Chevrolet may be answering one of the biggest questions we had about the E-Ray is if it would be able to drive exclusively in the hybrid mode. We are not expecting any great range, but being able to switch between the two modes may earn you early-morning appreciation from your neighbors.

What is interesting about this teaser is what isn’t shown, namely the E-Ray badge on the sides of the car, and the ‘Regen on Demand’ button from the interior which will give drivers the ability to customize the amount of the energy being captured and used to recharge the Ultium batteries. We also still don’t know if there will be one or two motors powering the E-Ray’s front wheels. We also don’t have any look at the tailpipes on the car which would help us in identifying the E-Ray prototypes from the Z06s with export exhaust being tested by GM.

The E-Ray is expected to provide somewhere between 600-650 horsepower, slotting the car just under the 670-hp from the 2023 Corvette Z06. We expect the price of the car to also slot between the starting MSRP of the Stingray’s $65,895 and the Z06’s $106,695.

As for the format of the reveal on January 17th, it sounds like this may be done virtually or perhaps it will have just a local Detroit audience. Stay tuned for additional details on the reveal of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray.

  1. well , wait and watch, another bad ass C8 coming. my problem is , which color? i expect to be an early owner.

  2. I’m disappointed that this car shown has body color trim even in the grill area. Few will want that. I am hoping for an option that will, of course, only make the car more money. Doing it aftermarket will possibly be more expensive.

  3. If I wanted my car to have no sound I would have bought a Tesla, screw the neighbors I love the sound of my cold starts on my C7 Z06.

  4. This will be great i can see it now 10,000 people will plunk down deposits only to be told that well the price has jumped 22% and we have no front right motors so it will be a while. The first few hundred will go to you tubers and celebrities same as the Z
