As a part of their annual flagship January sale in Central Florida, Mecum Auctions will have nineteen modern American performance machines on offer, each featuring extremely low mileage. The cars hail from the collection of enthusiast Mark Ziemer, who started gathering America’s finest performance vehicles in 2009, only adding necessary transport and parking miles to each specimen.
The assortment of domestic horsepower leans heavily into the fifth-generation (S197) Mustang, with eight examples of the Blue Oval’s pony car making an appearance along with a single, first-year Sixth-Gen (S550) 50th Anniversary unit. There’s also a pair of Ashen Gray Zeta-Platform Camaros tagging along, a manual transmission 2013 ZL1 Convertible with just 22 miles, and a 21-mile ’14 Z/28 with the AC option. Just three Dodges made the cut; a Hurst Edition 2010 Challenger and a pair of 600-horse Gen-IV Viper drop-tops.
What seems to have started as a ‘Stang party eventually spread to other makes and models, but Mark’s interest looks like it fizzled out by 2015, except in one facet; the Corvette! America’s Sports Car takes up the five remaining slots, and each ‘Vette was thoughtfully curated to make up a spectacular who’s-who of 2010-2019 Crossed Flags All-Stars.
Leading off for the Corvette portion of the line-up is a second-year C6 ZR1 with just 28 miles since new! It is presented in 2010’s rarest color, Velocity Yellow Tintcoat, making it one of just 89 so-ordered ’10s and one of just 272 Blue Devils ever painted in the ‘Vette’s official racing hue.
Batting second, we have a CorvetteBlogger favorite! It is an Inferno Orange 2011 Z06 Carbon that only shows 15 miles! Just 252 of these perfect C6s were minted for the ’11 model year, and unless your name is Rick Hendrick, they were only available in Supersonic Blue and this magnificent Orange. Inferno only accounted for about one-third of orders, making this an excessively rare find.
Rounding out the C6 selections is a 427 Convertible sporting the 60th Anniversary livery. It has traveled an excessive (for this collection) 520 miles since leaving Bowling Green. It is one of 2,552 swan song C6s built and one of 1,377 builds that married the one-year special 7.0 roadster body with the special Anniversary package and its slick “Blue Diamond” interior.
We’ve got our first C7 hitting clean-up, and it holds a tie with the next car as the newest members of the group. You are looking at #25 of the 100 Z06s built for the Hertz Corporation to celebrate the rental-car company’s 100th year of doing business. As a former loaner, the “HertZ06” stands out in this group because of the 17,738-mile reading of its odometer. Like its 99 brothers, number 25 features the striking black stripe over Corvette Racing Yellow colorway.
Finally, with no C8s, Gen-V Vipers, Alpha-Chassis Camaros, or current Mustangs (beyond the pre-facelift ’15), we’ve got the end of the road for Mark’s car interests, and what a finale he chose! It is a 2019 ZR1 Convertible with the Sebring Orange Design Package, the ZTK “big wing” RPO, and 110 fewer miles than horsepower. Out of the entire run of 2,953, just 512 ZR1s were ordered with the soft top, and 758 had the ZR’s signature orange design package.
If any of these collector-grade modern classics tickle your fancy, you’ll get your chance to bid from January 4th through 15th (this sale has gotten huge!). Best of luck; these are some of the best examples of each model to cross the block in some time!
